Sports briefs: Terra Linda golfers finish decorated careers with a win

Emily Wentzel carded a 35 to take medalist honors, narrowly edging teammate Vivian Johnson (36) as the Terra Linda High girls golf team defeated San Marin at McInnis Park on Monday.

The match was the last of the season for the Trojans, who have put together a stellar four-year run. Wentzel and Johnson — along with fellow seniors Ellla Reid and Rachael Lewis — finished their careers at TL with a 52-3 record, according to coach Steve Troya.

Prep softball

Angel Amesa hit a game-tying triple in the sixth inning then came around to score the winning run on a single by Megan Murphy as San Rafael rallied for a 3-2 win against Novato on Monday.

Kelsey McNair pitched two innings of relief, striking out four to pick up the win. McNair also scored the tying run on Amesa’s triple.

Ainsley Ingels pitched a complete game for Novato. Abby Brandt and Bella Harding had doubles for the Hornets.

College volleyball

Mariah Ahid had a team-high 12 kills to lead Dominican University to a 3-1 win against Pacific Union on Sunday. Hana Wyles had 19 digs and Haley Frederking added 13 assists for the Penguins (3-3).

Prep baseball

San Domenico fell behind by seven runs in the first inning and, although the offense came alive after that, was unable to catch Lick-Wilmerding in a 17-12 loss at Albert Park on Saturday night. The Panthers pulled to within 14-11 after five inning, getting two hits apiece from Alex Tavano and Aiden Cohen. Freshman John Mathison pitched four innings and had six strikeouts for San Domenico.

Prep swimming

The Novato girls and boys swim teams picked up victories against Redwood late last week. The Hornets were led on the girls side by Bianca Bayer, Kaley McIntyre — both double winners — plus Kate O’Leary and Lulu O’Leary. The boys were led by double winners Brett Brewer and Bryden Thielenhaus.

Redwood got wins on the girls side from Ruby Hauth, Charlotte DeForrest and Gwen Kallmeyer. The boys were led by Owen Peterson, Matthew Scruton and  Marc-Antoine Maync.
