Mariners Announce That James Paxton Will Have Season-Ending Surgery
The news that many in the Mariners organization feared has become a reality as Seattle manager Scott Servais announced today that James Paxton would undergo season-ending surgery. Corey Brock of The Athletic Seattle broke the news that will surely have the Mariners scrambling to find a replacement.
What was to be a welcoming home for Paxton after spending his first six years with the organization has turned into disappointment for a Mariners organization with thoughts of challenging for the division. Seattle signed Paxton to be a veteran presence for Seattle’s rotation as the Mariners continue to overhaul their club and promote their young players.
Unfortunately, it all went very wrong for Paxton just 24 pitches into his first start as he was forced to leave the game with what was described as elbow discomfort. Servais did not divulge exactly what type of surgery Paxton is expected to undergo, but it’s expected to keep him sidelined for the rest of the season.
