[FRND] Reminder to Submit Nominations for Athletic Hall of Fame
WICHITA, Kan. -- This is a reminder that everyone is encouraged to submit nominations for anyone you feel is worthy of being inducted this year into the Friends University Athletic Hall of Fame.
The deadline to receive nominations is June 1, with the induction ceremony set for Oct. 8 to commemorate Homecoming weekend.
Last year, the new selections were Tony Sheffield (Basketball, Baseball), Cole Davis (Track & Field), Aaron Howell (Football) and the 1985 Volleyball team.
Due to last year's county COVID restrictions, the 2020 and 2021 Hall of Fame inductees will both be honored at the ceremony.
This year's ceremony will also be on the heels of a major renovation in the Garvey Center, which is expected to be completed for the start of the 2021-22 athletics season. The renovation will include a new weight room, training room, administrative offices and main entry lobby.
Started in 1999, The Friends University Athletic Hall of Fame – located in the south lobby of the Garvey Gymnasium – currently honors 88 inductees, including athletes, coaches and supporters. Each year a committee of staff and alumni select the inductees based on nominations received from members of the Friends University community.
An athlete nominated must be a graduate of Friends University, played two years of varsity competition and must wait five years after graduation to be nominated. A coach nominee must have served Friends University for five years, while an administrator, staff, faculty or volunteer must have served Friends University for 10 years.
