New Godzilla Battle Line Video Reveals Heat Ray Gameplay
A new promotional video for Godzilla Battle Line, a mobile game starring the King of the Monsters, reveals the game's strategic gameplay. Godzilla Battle Line is the latest in a long line of video games, spread across many years and genres, to feature Japan's iconic kaiju. The characters first appeared in the 1954 film of the same name, which spawned a massive and long-running franchise for the atomic lizard.
Alongside a brand new film release with Adam Wingard's Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla has recently made a number of video game appearances as well. To celebrate the film's release the King of the Monsters was recently added to PUBG Mobile as a special game mode where players can face off against the enormous creature. Godzilla Mode, where players fight smaller monsters but are instantly vaporized if they get too close to Godzilla himself, is currently only available in the beta version of the game for a limited time. Outside of any official capacity Godzilla was also recently added to popular indie title Among Us as a cleverly programmed mod. The Godzilla Role Mod gives one player the opportunity to control the powerful reptile, who can destroy fellow players almost effortlessly.
Godzilla video game publisher TOHO Games recently revealed new gameplay of Godzilla Battle Line, a mobile strategy game starring Godzilla and his fellow kaiju. The title will allow players to partake in three-minute monster battles, featuring an all-star cast of creatures from across the franchise's long history. The strategy game tasks players with collecting monsters and military equipment in order to build a team before facing off against other players. Monsters and other resources are placed strategically onto the battlefield, and special moves such as Godzilla's Atomic Breath can drastically change the flow of combat.
Outside of video games, Godzilla has recently established a stake in tabletop role-playing games as well. Imgur user Primerva recently posted a custom Dungeons and Dragons guidebook that adds Godzilla, Kong and a host of other giant monsters to the fantasy series. Primerva's guide adds a new race, "kaijuborn," to the rulebook while accurately following the structure and style that one would expect from D&D.
The Godzilla franchise has seen a recent resurgence in popularity, due in large part to 2014's American-made Godzilla and 2016's Japanese-made Shin Godzilla. The giant lizard is an undeniable pop culture icon, with a long history in both film and video games. Godzilla Battle Line looks to pay tribute to the character's entire history, including a large variety of monsters and placing them into an original strategy game setup.
Godzilla Battle Line will release in May 2021.
