Sachiko Kondo suspended for 6 months
Yesterday, April 15th, the JBC issued a notice explaining that female fighter Sachiko Kondo (2-6-2) [近藤佐知子] had been given a 6 month suspension.
The suspension, which will be back dated to April 3rd, has been given to Kondo due to missing weight for her April 4th bout against Kaoru Iga (4-1-1) [伊賀薫].
The bout was set to take place at 108lbs but Kondo came in at 108¾lbs, resulting in the suspension.
Despite the extra weight Kondo actually went on to lose the bout to Iga, via a clear 6 round unanimous decision.
As well as Kondo's ban the JBC also stated that manager Ken Suzuki would be punished, as they were supposed to supervisor Kondo.
Given how often fighters miss weight in the west this punishment seems harsh, especially for someone fighting in such a low profile bout. This however is the JBC's way of stamping out fighters missing weight, and was a rule brought in a few years ago after numerous fighters failed to make weight in a very short window of time.
