Monster-Hunting Former Padawan Stars In High Republic Graphic Novel

0

IDW Publishing has just revealed a new preview for their upcoming original Star Wars graphic novel, featuring the exploits of former Padawan turned monster-hunter Ty Yorrick. This ex-Jedi will be a new character operating during the days of the High Republic era, and The Monster of Temple Peak will reveal her past and history. In the new preview, Yorrick is seen battling with an iconic Star Wars monster, and new details about her mysterious past are revealed as well thanks to new insights from Scott himself.

The Monster of Temple Peak, written by Cavan Scott with art by Rachael Stott, will be released as a four issue miniseries from IDW Publishing beginning in August. Prior to the release of the graphic novel, Yorrick will make her first appearances in the upcoming High Republic projects such as The Rising Storm adult novel from Cavan Scott and Race To Crashpoint Tower junior novel from Daniel José Older. Much of new graphic novel will be focused on Yorrick and her past, particularly the reasons why she left the Jedi Order as a Padawan and her evolution into a lightsaber-wielding mercenary who's become quite capable of hunting all manner of monsters across the galaxy.

Now, new preview images from Star Wars.com see Yorrick saving a child from the clutches of a gundark, a classic monster that has frequently been referenced and featured previously the Star Wars galaxy. She's also wielding a unique pink lightsaber she must have forged before she left the Order, marking it as the first of its kind in the galaxy (with the exception of Luke Skywalker's odd pink lightsaber in the very first Star Wars comics from Marvel).

According to an interview with Scott on Star Wars.com:

“Ty Yorrick is a character I’ve wanted to introduce to Star Wars for a long time, and The High Republic has provided the perfect opportunity. A monster hunter and mercenary, Ty is a mystery to just about every one who meets her. She has created quite the reputation for herself and is known on many worlds only by the title ‘saber-for-hire.'”

Additionally, Scott shared that the mystery as to why the Tholothian hunter left the Order would have links to one of his earlier Star Wars projects Dooku: Jedi Lost. Due to Dooku's status as a former Jedi among the Lost Twenty (Jedi who left the Order), Scott hints in the interview that events referenced in Dooku will have links to Yorrick's own backstory, which will certainly be interesting. Perhaps it has to do with the Padawan Klias Teradine? Teradine was a Padawan from the High Republic era Dooku learned about who broke into the Bogan Collection — a store of dark side artifacts the Jedi kept for study. While Teradine faded into obscurity after his expulsion, it's possible that he might have had help from Yorrick herself.

Dooku also confirmed that a Jedi by the name of Trennis was one of the Lost Twenty as well, though time will tell if Scott's main protagonist Keeve Trennis in his High Republic comic series for Marvel is the very same. Perhaps Trennis' and Yorrick's paths will converge in future stories set in the High Republic era? Star Wars fans will just have to wait and see when Ty Yorrick's origins are revealed in The Monster of Temple Peakcoming from IDW Publishing this August.
