Schitt's Creek: 10 Episodes That Prove David & Patrick Were Soulmates

0

David and Patrick are probably the cutest couple in Schitt's Creek - and in many ways, the series revolves around their relationship. From the moment they meet to their wedding in the finale, these two are right at the heart of the show, and it's obvious that they are meant to be. There are so many reasons that Patrick and David are great together, too. They balance each other out, they take care of each other, they run a successful business (which neither could manage alone), and they are so wholesome it is heart-melting.

While pretty much every interaction that these two have helps to prove that they are soulmates (as they don't exactly have much in the way of fights or falling outs), there are still some episodes that stick out more than others.

10 Motel Review (Season 3, Episode 8)

'Motel Review' Is Patrick's first episode in the series, and right from the start, it's obvious that he and David are perfect for each other. Or at least, from almost the very start. Initially, the two mens' differences are front and center, as David attempts to get Patrick's help with filing forms for his new business, and Patrick clearly has no patience for David's lack of business acumen. However, things become adorable quickly, after Patrick's comments actually help David start to figure out what he wants... and after David's ridiculous series of voicemails to Patrick breaks the ice and suggests that they might be able to help each other out.

9 Grad Night (Season 3, Episode 13)

For a long time, it seemed as though Patrick and David would just be business partners - and that was perfect enough, seeing as Patrick had the perfect skills for all the admin and finance side of things, and David understood the brand, concept, and items for sale better than anyone. But in 'Grad Night' things move forward, as the two go out for dinner, and Patrick gifts David a framed copy of their first sales receipt. It's an amazing moment, and their first kiss is even more magical.

8 Dead Guy In Room 4 (Season 3, Episode 14)

The morning after their first kiss includes an impressive moment for the couple, and one that proves just how well Patrick understands David, and how willing he is to be a part of the Rose family.

In the shop the next day, as David and Patrick are being adorably awkward around each other, Moira swings by, and sends Patrick to get her a tea. Not only does he do this (where a lot of people might balk at being ordered around), but he gets David's complicated usual coffee perfect, too.

7 Open Mic (Season 4, Episode 6)

Open Mic is known as a sweet episode for this couple largely because it involves Patrick serenading David in public, and that's obviously going to be romantic. However, it's more than that, as David spends a lot of the episode freaking out that Patrick is going to be terrible and it will be embarrassing. Watching him realize that a) it's ok even if that were to happen, because this town isn't about just appearances, and b) just because Patrick doesn't look like a stereotypical musician, he's incredibly talented, is amazing for David as well as for them as a couple.

6 The Olive Branch (Season 4, Episode 9)

After the awkwardness of 'The Barbeque', where Patrick's history (in the form of his ex) shows up, David and Patrick are struggling a bit - and when Patrick starts giving David gifts to apologize, he decides to pretend to be mad just a little longer to get more presents. It's a very David thing to do, and while this could have become a huge issue for another couple, watching Patrick and David work through it is proof of how good they are together. Not only are they able to talk about it like reasonable adults, but David makes up for it with an in-store song and dance that would melt any heart.

5 Rock On (Season 5, Episode 6)

This might seem a strange episode for some, as it centers on David sending Patrick out on a date with another man - but it's actually an incredible one for the two of them. Partially, this is because it shows how David can be unselfish when it comes to Patrick.

Even though he is happy, and wouldn't want Patrick to leave, he wants to make sure that his boyfriend is happy and able to have all the experiences of dating that he wants. And Patrick is willing to go along with it to make David happy (and himself, a little bit), but knows that in the end, they are just too good to risk messing up.

4 Meet The Parents (Season 5, Episode 11)

Meeting the parents is a big moment in any relationship, but this one is even more meaningful because David didn't realize that Patrick wasn't out to his when he invited them to town for a celebration. However, everything works out more than perfectly, as Patrick's parents are loving and happy for him (if a bit surprised at first), and David's pep talks to Patrick and the effort he puts in for his birthday, and to forming a connection with his parents, shows that this is a truly solid relationship.

3 The Hike (Season 5, Episode 13)

'The Hike' is best remembered for being the episode where Patrick proposes, and of course that is amazing, but there is something more going on here too. The actual proposal, the choice of spot, and the choice of rings are all obviously perfect - but this episode shows that the couple is so much more balanced than just David being dramatic and Patrick grounding him. Instead, when Patrick gets hurt, David takes care of him and gets them both to the top because he knows it is important to Patrick. It's proof that they take care of each other, and it's incredibly sweet to see.

2 The Incident (Season 6, Episode 2)

In the final season, Patrick and David are well-established and very much in love, and the pair just keep proving how perfect they are for each other. In 'The Incident', David has the embarrassing issue of starting to wet the bed - something he used to do as a child. And while Patrick definitely has his moments of hilarity, he's entirely understanding, patient, loving, and supportive throughout.

1 Start Spreading The News (Season 6, Episode 13)

At the end of the final season, it looked for a while like everyone was going to be leaving Schitt's Creek, and David and Patrick would be moving to New York. However, it turned out that Patrick wasn't expecting this, and David's assumptions very nearly caused an issue... but of course, they worked it out. This episode showed that Patrick was not just willing to do anything to make David happy, but that he really paid attention to his partner - and remembered the house that David repeatedly said he loved. He even bought that house, and when David realized that Patrick was building them a perfect future in Schitt's Creek, he shocked everyone by deciding that actually, they wanted to stay.

The finale itself is perfect for them too, of course, as it is their wedding day - but it's here, where David realizes that he is going to put their relationship first, and change his idea of what the future looks like, that their relationship really shows up as absolutely meant to be.
