If there were ever a time to back the Kings, it would be on Friday night at the Staples Center. Sacramento lost by 49 points in their last outing on Wednesday against Utah. I think we’ll learn a lot about this Kings team going into next season based on how they perform against the Lakers. The Jazz essentially stole their soul, and I’d have to think that now is the time to claim it back.

As for the Lakers, they have their own issues as well. Los Angeles is really just trying to make it to the playoffs without any other players catching the injury bug. They have as many as seven players on the injury report for this game, and five of them will be a game-time decision.

If you gave the Lakers truth serum, I don’t think they’d say that winning ballgames is a major priority for them at the moment. Instead, they’re really just working to build back up the endurance of some of their players while developing their rhythm and some continuity. There’s a decent chance we could have quite a few Lakers sit out in this game. Gasol and Caruso were held out of their last game against the Wizards, and Anthony Davis has played 31 minutes in back-to-back games, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a lighter load.

I think the trends coming into this game make a ton of sense. Sacramento is 3-0-1 ATS off a loss, while Los Angeles is 0-4-1 ATS in their last five outings. This line is just too high for my liking as Los Angeles shouldn’t be laying eight points given their current form.

My model gives Los Angeles a five-point edge at best in this game, with a final projected score of 115 to 110. As a result, I can only look to take the eight points with the road underdogs in this spot.

I’ll look to play this sooner than later, as I wouldn’t be surprised to see the line tick down even lower if we get an announcement later in the day from the NBA that officially downgrades the status of multiple Los Angeles players for this game.
