Batman Has Serious Respect For Fortnite Players | Screen Rant
Warning: spoilers ahead for Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point #1!
Batman has serious respect for Fortnite players. This is revealed in the very first issue of DC Comics' new series, Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point #1. The Dark Knight is thrown into a strange world, as video games and superheroes collide in this strange new story.
Since its release in 2017, the battle royale game has become one of the most popular in the world. Fortnite is continually being updated and has grown into a significant media property, prompting crossover events with Marvel, DC, and other major pop culture staples. Now, Fortnite throws Batman into combat with its players, and the Dark Knight is impressed with what he sees.
Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point #1 - from Donald Mustard, Christos Gage, Reilly Brown, Nelson Faro DeCastro, and John Kalisz - begins with Batman talking to Commissioner Gordon about a strange anomaly. Not long after, the Caped Crusader confronts Harley Quinn - who seems to know more than she's letting on, leaping into a tear in reality that also swallows Batman - and deposits him in the world of Fortnite. Once there, he realizes he cannot speak and he doesn't remember who he is. However, there are a few things he does know, including that his foes know what they're doing. "What do I know? I'm a trained fighter," he narrates as a Fortnite player launches an ambush, "And so is he."
Later in the comic, it is revealed that even though Batman doesn't know who he is or where he came from, he knows he is being controlled. He knows there is someone manipulating him in some way. He also discerns that he and his opponent are trained fighters - and this is how he gives Fortnite players some serious respect. Batman still has his skills and it is clear that he is in the game itself. So the players controlling him and the foes he is facing? Batman thinks they know exactly what they're doing. He thinks they have legitimate training; a big compliment coming from a hero who spent years studying various combat styles all over the planet.
Given Batman's long history and his specialized skillset, this moment of calling players "trained fighters" is huge. Clearly, he is going up against some of the best that Fortnite has to offer if even he is impressed. To be able to control an in-game character enough to impress Batman is nothing to be laughed at. While he may not remember it in the moment, Batman is used to facing martial artists like Talia al Ghul, Philo Zeiss, Lady Shiva, and Bronze Tiger, so for him to take note of the skills Fortnite players are bringing to the table shows just how deadly each of the battle royale avatars truly are. This respect is as genuine as praise from a fictional character can possibly be - and every player of Fortnite can now strive to be good enough to impress Batman himself with their gaming skills.
