MLB news and notes for Friday, May 7
The Yankees have recalled Miguel Andujar from Triple-A, RotoWire reports. Andujar is also starting at first base for the Yankees as Gio Urshela deals with a knee injury. Urshela had an MRI on that knee which revealed no structural damage, and he is considered to be day to day. How long Andujar remains in the lineup likely depends on how well he hits and also the return of Luke Voit from his own knee injury next week.
Justin Upton is back in the lineup for the Angels on Friday, RotoWire reports. Upton has missed two games with a bruised right knee, but he’ll bat fourth and left field in the opener of the freeway series versus the Dodgers.
The Mets announced Friday that top pitching prospect Matt Allan will need to undergo Tommy John surgery, RotoWire reports. Allan is expected to be out until late 2022 at the earliest.
Alex Kirilloff of the Twins was given a cortisone shot in his wrist Friday, RotoWire reports. Kirilloff is the top offensive prospect for the Twins and was just starting heat up with four home runs in his previous four-game before the injury. The Twins won’t know when Kirolloff can return to the lineup until they see if the shot does what it’s supposed to do.
