Shazam 2 Star Confirms Filming Starts Next Week | Screen Rant
Shazam: Fury of the Gods star Faithe Herman confirms that she starts filming the DC Extended Universe sequel next week. Warner Bros. launched the Shazam! franchise in 2019 as an example of how the DCEU was moving forward with a different tone. After Aquaman made $1 billion worldwide in 2018, Shazam! had the most light-hearted tone of any DC movie and received incredibly positive reviews. It didn't take long for talks about a sequel to the Zachary Levi-led superhero movie to begin, with director David F. Sandberg returning.
Sandberg and writer Henry Gayden have been developing Shazam 2 for a while now and it has really picked up steam as of late. Fans have long known that Zachary Levi will be back as the superhero half of Shazam with Asher Angel playing the teenager Billy Batson, who becomes Shazam when he says his name. Rachel Zegler, Helen Mirren, and Lucy Liu are attached to play the villains. The core cast from the original movie will all return, which includes the child actors playing Billy's foster brother and sisters and those who play their superhero personas as members of the Shazam Family. Now we know that filming starts in just a few days.
Faithe Herman, who plays the young Darla Dudley in Shazam!, recently revealed on Twitter that she's about to start filming the sequel. The young actress confirmed that she's finished filming This Is Us season 5 and won't take much of any time off before starting her next project, Shazam: Fury of the Gods. According to her, she's going to start filming the movie sometime next week.
It was previously revealed by fellow Shazam 2 star Meagan Good, who coincidentally plays Darla's Shazam form, that production began in May. Good didn't provide a more specific timetable for the DC production, but now Darla's other half has. Considering Shazam: Fury of the Gods doesn't come out until June 2023, this is a very early start to filming, but it does make sense. Herman is one of the sequels' many young actors who are rapidly growing and aging. This is why many expected Shazam 2 to start filming even earlier than this because the kids will look much older by the time the sequel happens. It is likely that Sandberg and WB are getting a jump on filming to not waste more time with the kid actors.
With Herman revealing she's set to start filming next week, other Shazam: Fury of the Gods actors are likely on their way to begin work too. Depending on what and where they film at the beginning, it is possible that set photos from the movie could arrive quickly. It is already known that the sequel will include more of the Shazam Family and give them new suits. If Shazam: Fury of the Gods does update the Shazam costumes, hopefully official images come first to reveal them instead of blurry set photos.
