Batman Proves Why He Could Never Beat Wolverine | Screen Rant

Warning! Spoilers for Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point #2!

DC ComicsBatman is fully aware he's been thrust into a twisted game of life and death set in the world of Fortnite, and in the latest issue of this epic crossover event, a huge reason is revealed as to why Bats could never beat Marvel’s Wolverine. Hint: it has to do with some unresolved anger issues.

Seen in the second issue of Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point by Christos Gage and Reilly Brown, Batman is stuck on an island in the middle of nowhere that sees his mind wiped every twenty-two minutes as he’s constantly attacked on all sides by various psychopaths hell-bent on seeing him fall. Unable to speak, unable to find a way off the island and unable to even figure out a way to win the sadistic game he’s been thrust into, Batman is joined by the ever-violent Harley Quinn and his lover and on-again, off-again partner in crime, Catwoman, as they do their best to get to the bottom of their predicament.

Being the seasoned detective and all-around smart guy that Batman is, he’s done everything he can with the time-loop situation he’s trapped in, going so far as to leave himself notes and bits of information to help his near future self navigate the deathtrap that is Fortnite. As days pass and the never-ending battles creep on, Catwoman and Batman develop an unspoken connection that no doubt stems from their intense feelings for one another in the real world. And it’s here, after Batman watches Catwoman die via a bullet to the back that Batman lets his inner Wolverine out, and immediately gives a reason as to why he could never beat Wolvie in the process.

No strangers to being consumed with rage and anger on a normal day, both Batman and Wolverine are usually able to unleash their full fighting prowess when their wits aren’t entirely about them – with Batman being less susceptible to giving in to these overwhelming feelings entirely compared to Wolverine. Confirming as much as he thinks to himself while beating down the goons surrounding him, Batman muses, “The analytical part of my brain doesn’t completely shut off. It notes a hypothesis confirmed, as the storm comes to claim us all. Feelings DO carry over…” succinctly telling fans that while his rage and drive to hurt the people that murdered Catwoman has indeed enhanced his ability to fight, his rigid morality would never allow him to straight up kill everyone, even when he doesn’t remember where he is, who he is or what his purpose is in this unending Fortnite nightmare.

Similar to Bats yet in a category all his own, Wolverine is known to go full berserker mode whenever he begins to see red, and is near unstoppable when he taps into that seemingly limitless power. Giving him a unique edge that allows him to take down overpowered enemies, telepaths that others can’t even touch, scores of enemies that outnumber him a hundred to one as well as enhanced strength and effectiveness overall, Wolverine’s loose morals have always allowed him to kill, murder and maim in ways that Batman just simply wouldn’t, giving him an upper hand in a way that Batman can’t – and wouldn't even consider – matching.

So while both Batman and Wolverine have similar anger issues that allow them to boost their fighting abilities in an emotionally charged pinch, Batman’s underlying ethics and training would never allow his rage to go too far into a direction he’d ultimately regret, giving Wolverine and his berserker power a huge advantage over The Dark Knight. Fortnite might have just proven why Batman could never beat Wolverine while at their most rageful, but that doesn’t mean Bats wouldn’t give this iconic member of the X-Men a run for his money.
