Turkish-Backed Militant Commander Killed By Syrian Army’s Fire In Greater Idlib
On May 9, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) eliminated a commander of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) in the northwestern region of Greater Idlib.
The commander, Mahmoud al-Qadu, was reportedly killed when a post he was manning near the town of Saraqib in the southern countryside of Idlib was struck by the SAA artillery. No other casualties were reported.
At around the same time, the SAA artillery also pounded the towns of Fatterah, Benin, Sufuhon, Fleifel and al-Bara, also located in southern Idlib.
Al-Qadu was a commander in the al-Sham Corps, the SNA’s main faction in Greater Idlib. He was reportedly responsible for the faction’s 11th Brigade.
The SAA inflicted some serious losses on Greater Idlib militates this week. On May 7 alone, three militants of al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sahm were killed and two others were wounded in missile strikes on western Aleppo.
The last strikes by the SAA were a response to the militants’ repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement in Greater Idlib, which was brokered by Russia and Turkey on March 5, 2020.
