Hogwarts Legacy: 10 Character Customization Options Fans Want For The Harry Potter Game
The Harry Potter franchise will be taking a big step with the debut of its first open-world console video game. Hogwarts Legacy certainly has a lot of potential, but one of the ways to really capture the imagination of fans and bring them into this fantasy setting is by giving them a great amount of control over their character.
Customization within games like these is absolutely vital for the audience to become attached to the story that's being told. Fans are certainly looking for some very specific things when it comes to putting their own little touches on their characters. From their attire to props and animals, there are countless ways that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Avalanche Software, and Portkey Games can continue to provide choices within the title.
10 Choice Of House Attire
The sorting process is sure to be a huge aspect of the game. It's unlikely that players will actually be able to sort themselves into one of the four factions within Hogwarts, but that doesn't mean they can't have the option to create an outfit to demonstrate their new allegiance.
House pride is definitely strong amongst the Harry Potter community, so it would be great to see a variety of Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw clothing pieces to add to a player's collection. Often games within the franchise stick with the basic robes or sweater-and-pant combination, but there's room here for some creative additions.
9 Casual Clothing And Accessories
It's not all about the House colors, though, as the Wizarding World certainly has a great variety of other styles that could be offered up to players. One trip down Diagon Alley and it's clear that fashion within this universe isn't quite reflective of the Muggle realms.
It would be fun to see players create a range of outfits that genuinely match their personalities or their character. What's more, perhaps there can be detailed customization of both accessories and garments, rather than simply buying basic items from shops.
8 Dormitory Decoration
For the most part, Hogwarts will be the location that players will be spending the majority of their time. What's more, their home away from home will be their dormitories, which they will be sharing with their fellow students. It would be cool to see a little bit of personality added to these locations.
While the common room themselves already have distinct aesthetics, giving players the options to redesign their own rooms would be a great way to give further ownership over the world they are inhabiting. Failing this, perhaps players can have their own personal, customizable space in the Room of Requirement.
7 Pets
Animals are a large part of everyday life in the Wizarding World. Often useful as part of the curriculum at Hogwarts, animals have very different abilities. It seems only logical that players should be able to choose the pet they have by their side.
While owls, toads, cats, and rats seem like normal options for the start of the game, as the narrative develops, audiences should be able to have the option to bring in more exotic pets to their world. Basilisks might be a bit too violent, but Bowtruckles and Pygmy Puffs would fit in well.
6 Designing A Wand
A trip to Ollivanders, or similar facilities in locations like Hogsmeade, will no doubt be where students will be picking up their wands. The wand, of course, chooses the wizard, but it would be even better if the gamer could forge their own magical item.
Wands have really distinct designs, from the type of wood and core used, to the way in which the handle is constructed. Giving fans ownership over what their wand looks like may be one of the keys to engaging them further in Hogwarts Legacy.
5 Broom Creation
Much in the same way, Quidditch will also be a vital part of the journey in this Harry Potter title, and as such, a broomstick will be one of the most important pieces of equipment a student can own. Being able to design these vehicles would be an added bonus.
It's unclear what broomsticks would be available at this point in the timeline since it's far too early for a Nimbus 2000 or Firebolt. However, players might be able to craft their own unique flying objects to glide through the skies.
4 Diversity Options
It was recently announced that Hogwarts Legacy would have the option to create transgender characters as part of their customization options. This is a welcome move and one that should be part of the many options available in the game.
There's simply not enough diversity when it comes to character creation in open-world platforms. From ethnicity to sexuality and gender, Hogwarts Legacy has an opportunity to offer genuine freedom for players to explore and create their own authentic characters.
3 Magical Artifacts
Magical artifacts are another significant aspect of the Wizarding World. Harry Potter is known for using his Invisibility Cloak and Marauders Map to make his way through Hogwarts. Dumbledore is proud of his Deluminator, while the Weasley twins have all manner of prank and joke paraphernalia.
Being able to possess a variety of objects that are collected throughout the game and are genuinely useable would be a fun way for players to be able to interact with the environment. Having these objects could also unlock new things about the castle.
2 Alternate Schools
There are a few other Wizarding schools in the Harry Potter franchise, which fans have read about and seen onscreen. Durmstrang, Ilvermorny, and Beauxbaton are some examples of the other educational facilities that students might be able to visit.
Even if these locations are unavailable in the game, it would be great to see some Easter eggs for these competing schools. The option to wear uniforms from the other institutions for instance would be a brilliant way to show support for the Triwizard competitors.
1 School Schedule
If fans are going to have to be real students during their time playing Hogwarts Legacy then they should also be able to customize their schedule. As pupils get older, they are normally allowed to drop subjects and pick up new areas of interest.
Having the choice to study Runes and Transfiguration in fourth year, rather than carry on with Charms, for instance, would be a novel way to allow players to immerse themselves in their characters' Hogwarts journey.
