The Great Eight played just 39 seconds against the New York Rangers in his attempt to come back from the injury on May 3rd after missing four straight games. Ovechkin was a full participant in Monday’s practice and skated on the weekend. With the playoffs right around the corner and the Capitals locked into the second seed in the East Division, they may choose to rest their captain for the postseason.
Ovi will once again lead the team in goals whether he plays tonight or not as the Russian vet has 24 on the season, and TJ Oshie, who is second with 22, will miss Tuesday’s game. Oshie left Saturday’s 2-1 overtime win over the Flyers with a lower-body injury.
Defenseman John Carlson will also be held out of tonight’s playoff preview against Boston. Carlson didn’t play on Saturday with a lower-body injury but did practice Monday. Nicklas Backstrom also missed the weekend’s game with a lower-body issue but will play against the Bruins.
The Capitals are -126 home favorites on the moneyline at the FanDuel Sportsbook tonight against Boston and have +1200 odds to win this season’s Stanley Cup.
