Luis Rojas announced a few roster updates on Saturday, namely that Seth Lugo is close to being activated. Lugo is eligible to come off the injured list as soon as Monday, and is expected to be activated then. He is yet to pitch for the Mets this year, but recently rehabbed with Syracuse and St. Lucie.
Tim Healey of Newsday also reported that starting pitcher Taijuan Walker was activated off the IL, and he will start Saturday’s game against the Braves. In a corresponding move, Yennsy Diaz was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.
Rojas also mentioned that Jacob deGrom will make his regularly scheduled start on Sunday as he gets back into the swing of things after a very brief IL stint. David Peterson will follow on Monday.
Kevin Pillar is already back doing baseball activities while also testing a face mask after his recent scare. Pete Alonso is working his way back as well, with a strong chance that he could return to the big league club without needing a rehab assignment.
In other news, Rojas said that the Mets are yet to reach the 85% vaccination threshold, noting that it’s a “work in progress” and that some of the players are skeptical about it.
