A new Black Widow video released ahead of the film’s U.S. premiere is giving fans one final tease of the MCU’s return to the big screen. The film will be the franchise’s first theatrical outing since Spider-Man: Far from Home ended Phase 3 in 2019, and while Disney has released a number of successful MCU streaming series since then, nothing is quite the same as seeing a new Marvel movie in a theater. Black Widow is directed by Cate Shortland and stars Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Rachel Weisz, O-T Fagbenle, Ray Winstone, and William Hurt.
Leading up to its US premiere, Black Widow has received high praise from critics, both for its blockbuster action and for Natasha Romanoff’s personal journey in the film. Though it will be the first theatrical release of MCU Phase 4, Black Widow actually takes place during the events of Phase 3, between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Endgame. It should be interesting to see how that setting pays homage to the franchise’s past, while also setting up new storylines for the future.
In a new video released by Marvel Entertainment, Natasha’s MCU journey is chronicled in montage form, culminating in some more stunning action shots from Black Widow. Because Natasha sacrifices herself in Endgame, fans will go into the new movie knowing that the character doesn’t have that much time left. The new video acts as a fun retrospective on Black Widow’s arc through the franchise, bringing back iconic moments and teasing what’s to come. Check out the Black Widow video below.

Looking back through Black Widow’s time in the MCU, it’s a shame knowing that the new movie may be her last live-action outing. Of course, with Marvel Studios introducing more and more elements from the comics, such as the multiverse and time travel, there’s no guarantee that Johansson will be done for good after Black Widow releases. Depending on how Loki ends and what new threads are introduced in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, she could very plausibly return.
For now, though, it’s exciting just to have the MCU back in theaters. F9: The Fast Saga’s successful premiere felt like a turning point for cinemas after a year and a half of bad news, and the return of the world’s biggest film franchise should be another step forward in that resurgence. For those still hesitant to return to theaters, Black Widow will also be released for streaming on Disney+ Premier Access.
