Big Brother 23: What To Know About Travis Long's Child Abduction Book

0

The viewers are learning more about Travis Long as a contestant on Big Brother 23, but many fans may not know that he's actually the published author of a book about child abduction and safety. It's been a tough first week for Travis Long on BB23. Brandon Frenchie had promised him safety during their first few hours in the house, but Frenchie's plan then turned into taking out one of the so-called "jocks" of the season in week 1.

As Brandon Frenchie's Head of Household reign became more and more chaotic, he attempted to target Brent Champagne (who connected with the HOH by sharing personal stories), Christian Birkenberger (who gained safety from the Wildcard competition), Alyssa Lopez (for being linked to Christian in a hypothetical/possible showmance), and Derek Xiao (who won the first Power of Veto in the season). In the end, the veto was used to take Kyland Young - a pawn - off the block, and Frenchie had to go back on his day-one promise and put up Travis on the block.

Many fans probably don't realize it, but Travis Long released a book called The Mysterious Pink Van back in January 2018. The book costs $9.99 on Amazon, has 16 pages, and is recommended for children between 4 and 12 years old. The Mysterious Pink Van is described as a "humorous children's book that playfully engages kids in the serious matter of stranger danger, creating a light-hearted platform for you to transition into a serious talk with your child about their safety." All the pictures featured in the book were drawings created by students in elementary schools after they had a lesson about "abduction safety."

This is another random - and fascinating - fact about Travis Long, who many fans are now seeing with different eyes since he effectively refused to campaign against Alyssa Lopez while they both sit on the block in week 1 of Big Brother 23. As of this Wednesday, July 14, it seems pretty certain that Travis will be the first evicted houseguest of the season. While some fans are happy that the first boot of the season won't be a woman and/or a person of color, other viewers are concerned about Alyssa's involvement with the Slaughterhouse alliance. Moreover, many believe that Travis could benefit Derek Xiao's game going forward.

There isn't a readily-available documented explanation as to why Travis decided to write a book about a topic as heavy as "child abduction." However, it seems pretty clear that Travis' intentions with this book were to help educate children on the dangers of interacting with adult strangers. Child abduction is a huge problem in many countries - including the United States - so educating children on these matters is certainly valid and noteworthy.
