Council approves
fire safety grants
The Town Council has approved allocating $25,000 toward grants to help pay for a vegetation management program for seniors, disabled and low-income residents.
The money will go toward the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority’s chipper day events that help residents with brush clearing around their homes. Residents must be 65 or older, living with a disability or earn an income of 35% below median to qualify.
The program was approved July 7.

Downtown project
to be aired at meeting
An informational meeting on the second phase of the downtown rehabilitation project is set for 4 p.m. Thursday via Zoom.
The project aims to make crosswalk safety improvements along Throckmorton Avenue, Madrona Street and at East Blithedale Avenue.

Advisory board
interviews set
The City Council is conducting a special meeting at 5 p.m. to interview candidates for advisory boards and committees.
There are nine candidates vying for two four-year terms on the Design Review Board; three applicants for one four-year term seat on the Planning Commission; two applicants for one four-year term on the Fire Commission and five applicants vying for two vacancies on the Board of Library Trustees.

WEST MARIN
Firefighters battle
Hicks Valley grass fire
Marin County firefighters battled a 33-acre grass fire in West Marin Wednesday.
The fire, which started along the road, was reported at about 1:30 p.m. on the 6900 block of Point Reyes-Petaluma Road in the Hicks Valley area, authorities said.
No structures were threatened. No evacuations were ordered. Roads were closed in the area.
Fire officials called for air support from Cal Fire. Crews from Novato, Nicasio and Skywalker Ranch, and sheriff’s deputies and the CHP assisted in the effort.
The fire was 60% contained Wednesday afternoon. The cause is under investigation.
