Pokémon GO Ultra Unlock Part 1 & 2 Events Add Shiny Dialga & Palkia
The Ultra Unlock Parts 1 & 2 rewards have been revealed for Pokémon GO, including shiny variants of Palkia and Dialga which will be available to be caught by players. Other Pokémon will have increased appearance rates as well. Part 3 has also been teased, but the exact details of that event are still unknown.
The large-scale in-game event Pokémon GO Fest 2021 recently concluded. Traditionally, players are given a set of challenges to complete during the event in the Global Challenge Arena. This year proved to be no different, with players across the world completing the 24 challenges on offer. As a reward, special Pokémon are introduced to the game as part of the Ultra Unlock event. These are available to all players for the duration of the event.
The details regarding the first two parts of the event have been shared on the Pokémon GO website. The event will run through the end of July through all of August. Part 1: Time will heavily feature Dialga, who will appear in 5-star raids. Some lucky players will even have the chance to catch a shiny variant. Cranidos and Shieldon will also have boosted appearance rates, along with an increased shiny chance. Part 2: Space instead focuses on Palkia. Like its fellow Legendary, it too will appear in 5-star raids, possibly as a shiny. Pokémon like Heracross and Kangaskhan will appear in 3-star raids with the same boosted shiny rate. Players will likely be keen to take advantage of these boosted rates; after all, some Pokémon, like Litwick, don't even have shiny variants.
Part 1: Time will occur between July 23 and August 3, with Part 2: Space happening soon after (August 6 through 17). The rest of August will be host to Part 3: ??? The question marks are, as of this writing, the current name for the event. In-game, the appearance of Palkia, Dialga, and the other Pokémon is due to the meddling of Hoopa, a Mythic Pokémon, during Pokémon GO Fest. Part 3 may elaborate on the broken space-time continuum, possibly settling things back to normal. It will run from August 20 to 31.
Regardless of in-game or real-world explanations, the Ultra Unlock event will give Pokémon GO players a chance to catch some beloved Pokémon. Fan-favorites like Espurr and Magneton are confirmed to be appearing in raids. Dialga and Palkia are also some of the more popular Legendaries in the franchise, thanks to their cool designs and powers. It's also a nice tie-in for the upcoming Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl games, although that may be a coincidence. The mystery surrounding Part 3 may also attract those not interested in the previous parts. The fifth anniversary celebration continues, and not even Hoopa's mischievous ways can stop the party.
Pokémon GO is available for iOS and Android.
