Rob Zombie Reveals Herman's Frankenstein Brow In The Munsters BTS Image
Musician turned horror filmmaker Rob Zombie has teased the first look at the Herman Munster brow that will be used in his upcoming movie adaptation of The Munsters. The behind-the-scenes images are the latest offerings from Zombie, who has been trying to get the film made for 20 years now. The Munsters hasn’t had a theatrical film adaptation since 1966’s Munster, Go Home!, making it quite a wait for fans of the short-lived TV series.
Though Zombie has yet to reveal exactly who he’s casting to star as the famed spooky family, at present, it’s rumored that the filmmaker’s wife, Sheri Moon Zombie, has landed the role of the family matriarch, Lillian Munster. That leaves the likes of Grandpa, Marilyn, Eddie, and of course, the Frankenstein-esque Herman — all of whom will require careful consideration if Zombie is as serious as he says he is about ensuring that the adaptation is done right. Arguably the most challenging role to cast to perfection is Herman, who led the TV series. Herman’s happy-go-lucky attitude and good-natured disposition toward most things was always one of the series’ most endearing aspects. The character was played by the late Fred Gwynne, who quickly became a fan favorite and who has left behind some very big shoes to fill.
As pre-production on The Munsters slowly but surely continues, Zombie has been particularly generous as of late in sharing bits and pieces of behind-the-scenes action. The most recent peek into the growing world of The Munsters once again comes courtesy of Zombie and his Instagram account – and this time it’s all Herman. As can be seen in the images below, Zombie has shown off the character’s instantly recognizable prominent brow in three new behind-the-scenes images.

It remains to be seen if Zombie’s Munsters movie will also feature Herman’s twin brother, Charlie. Although virtually identical to Herman - aside from his manner of speaking, dressing, and conducting himself – Charlie is actually the exact opposite of his brother. Known to fans of the series as a greedy con artist, it would certainly be interesting to see Zombie bring the character back for the film. At any rate, the current clay sculpting of Herman’s brow looks as authentic as anything seen in the series. With the film’s production still at such an early stage, it’s highly unlikely that Zombie will spoil anything by showcasing any additional prosthetics that could be used for Charlie (even if they did exist and visibly differed from Herman’s).
With each new revelation that Zombie offers fans comes a growing sense that his big-screen adaptation of The Munsters just might be something quite special. The biggest advantage that Zombie has in all this is that The Munsters is such an old series, there’s room to create an entirely new fanbase that isn’t strictly devoted to everything the original series offered. This isn’t to say that there aren’t diehards out there who will demand that Zombie not leave anything out, but Zombie’s own love for the series could be enough to ensure authenticity.
