The Office: The 10 Main Couples & Their Most Iconic Scenes
The Office might have made a big impact on pop culture on many levels, from popular memes to memorable phrases, but other than the humorous elements of the series, the romantic relationships were what really drove the plot along. There were some incredibly iconic and often messy romantic relationships o the show, starting with the slow burn of Jim and Pam to the tumultuous relationship of Michael and Jan.
Some of the most well-known couples on the series seemed meant to be together and fans rooted for them all along. However, others were memorable for more negative reasons. Either way, these couples left a big impression on fans.
10 Erin And Pete: Watching Die Hard
While Erin and Andy were together for longer than Erin and Pete, Pete was definitely the better boyfriend. Andy’s character arc started to go off the rails after Michael left the show, and Erin deserved better. While Erin dated many men on the series, Pete was the kindest to her and they seemed to actually like each other.
One of their first big moments actually happened while Erin was technically still with Andy, but since he was sailing around the world, watching this classic action film with Pete made sense.
9 Oscar And The Senator: Anglea Trying To Get Oscar Attacked
Oscar’s relationship with the Senator is really closely connected to Angela’s marriage to the Senator, as both of these relationships were happening at the same time. When Angela learned of the affair, she tried to get Oscar attacked. Luckily, this didn’t happen and Dwight intervened.
Strangely, despite this dramatic moment in their friendship, losing the Senator brought Angela and Oscar closer as friends and they both finally left him behind.
8 Michael And Jan: The Dinner Party Episode
The "Dinner Party" episode is one of the most memorable and iconic episodes of The Office, ever. It’s filled with hilarious and outlandish moments, like Jan breaking Micahel’s small TV with his Dundie and the tour of the house, where it’s revealed that Michael slept at the foot of the bed.
This dramatic episode showed just how toxic Michale and Jan really were together, and it's what finally gave Michael the courage to leave this horrible relationship behind, despite trying and failing before.
7 Karen And Jim: Jim Breaking Up With Her After New York
In some ways, Karen and Jim could have been really good together, as they had similar career goals and got along rather well. However, Jim’s heart was always with Pam. Sadly, the most iconic moment between these two is actually when it all ended. In some ways, Jim breaking up with her and abruptly asking Pam out the same day is cold-hearted, but it did reveal that he shouldn’t have been with Karen in the first place.
The relationship was a rebound, and Karen deserved more than that. Overall, things worked out in the end for all three of them, but Karen was right to move to a new branch.
6 Erin And Andy: Andy Getting Her The 12 Days of Christmas
Erin and Andy were rather an odd couple from the start, and things got even weirder when she dated Gabe and then dated Andy again. However, while these two clearly weren’t meant to be, Andy getting Erin the literal "12 days of Christmas" is hard to forget.
It wasn’t the smartest decision, as Erin was mostly left to deal with a bunch of birds, but, then again, Andy was never the best at relationships and didn't think things through very well.
5 Phyllis And Bob Vance: Hooking Up On Their Valentine’s Day Date
While Jim and Pam might be the most-loved relationship in the show, Phyllis and Bob Vance are often considered the best couple by fans. One of the best things about their relationship is that the show didn’t stereotype them because of their age. They were clearly very attracted to one another, and they were open about it.
When they spent too long in the bathroom on their Valentine’s Day double date with Jim and Pam, they showed that they were all about the passion.
4 Kelly And Ryan: “How Dare You.”
Most of the main relationships on The Office were on-again and off-again, but Kelly and Ryan really took things to the next level. They even went so far as to get married and divorced quickly without telling anyone. However, probably their most iconic scene was when Ryan comes back to the office after joining corporate and Kelly lets him know how she feels.
This is just one of many rather toxic yet also quite hilarious scenes between the two of them. And, while it’s clear that they bring out the worst in one another, they also can’t ever stay away from the co-dependent relationship they’ve built.
3 Angela And Dwight: When Dwight Kills Sprinkles
Angela and Dwight do end up having some rather endearing moments, including their wedding in the series finale. However, their relationship is a rather difficult one for most of the show. They often don’t treat each other very well, and Angela is just as much to blame.
However, the most iconic moment between them is when Dwight kills Angela's beloved cat, Sprinkles. It’s a classic Dwight move because he doesn’t realize what he’s doing is wrong, and this is the moment that these two break things off more officially, at least for a while.
2 Michael And Holly: Michael’s Proposal At The Office
Where Michael and Jan were awful together, Michael and Holly were just right. However, their relationship wasn’t without its struggles. Despite being apart for years, they did seem meant to be together. This all culminated with a rather perfect proposal, even if it was a fire hazard.
While this was a happy moment, it wasn’t the best for fans, as it was the beginning of the end for Micahel on the series. And, overall, the eighth and ninth seasons suffered from this loss, even if it did seem a fitting end for the character.
1 Jim And Pam: Their Wedding Day
There is a long list of beloved and best Jim and Pam moments to choose from, but probably the best of them all is when they finally get married. Their wedding is filled with excitement including when Jim tells MeeMaw about Pam’s pregnancy. But, it all turns out perfectly when they just elope to Niagara Falls.
The entire wedding really encapsulates their relationship, as they are dealing with unsupportive family, ridiculous co-workers, and a lot of stress. Yet, they respond to these challenges with humor, and their one on one relationship is more important than anything else.
