The 10 Funniest Inuyasha Episodes | ScreenRant
Inuyasha lasted 167 episodes that aired between 2000 and 2004. The titular human-demon-dog hybrid gets into several hilarious and harrowing situations in his quest to recover the sacred Sikon Jewel along with his best friend, Kagome.
In addition to iconic main characters like Jaken, Shippo, Miroku, Myoga, and many more, much of the humor in the series is derived from the improbable jams and difficult scenarios Inuyasha and the others find themselves in while slaying demons in the fourth dimension. While some end on happier notes than others, the funniest episodes of the show are bound to appeal to ardent and casual fans alike.
10 Episode 6
In Episode 6, Inuyasha is tasked with retrieving the sacred Tetsusaiga sword left behind by his father. To find it, he must enter the netherworld and take on Jaken and Sesshomaru. Hilarity ensues when Inuyasha flippantly mistakes the sword as a piece of trash.
After spotting rust on the handle of the sword, Inuyasha obliviously dismisses it as a "piece of junk" and refuses to obtain it. His decision hilariously backfires when his brother easily defeats him in a battle, prompting Inuyasha to yell out "you bastard" in the process. When Kagome implores Inuyasha to "get the dumb sword," his bumbling ineptitude leads to her ultimate heroism and makes him feel silly as can be.
9 Episode 9
Episode 9 marks the introduction of Shippo, the hilarious and adorable fox-demon character who wants nothing more than to become strong enough to serve revenge for his father's death. The source of humor comes from his constant failures to achieve this goal.
After Shippo introduces himself as a cute pink balloon that Inuyasha hilariously chases and tries to capture to no avail, Kagome is kidnapped by Manten, a demon that killed Shippo's father. The interplay between Inuyasha and Shippo is bolstered by a side-splitting dialogue between the two. A sly in-joke comes when Shippo ransacks Kagome's bag and tosses out an Inuyasha manga.
8 Episode 36
With such droll quips as Inuyasha's "I'm not smelling wolf, but I am smelling bird. And I'll tell you this much, it ain't no turkey dinner," episode 36 is one of the funniest in the series. The plot concerns the wolf-demon Koga abducting Kagome for her keen ability to detect the Shikon Jewel.
However, the absolute funniest aspect of the episode comes when Koga powers up when shards from the jewel are implanted in his legs. Now matched with Inuyasha's strength, Koga unleashes the power of Kaze no Kizu, demonic fleas that Inuyasha is hilariously annoyed with to no end.
7 Episode 68
In Episode 68, Shippo is challenged to a duel by a thunder demon named Soten. When Shippo reluctantly accepts, Soten resorts to a series of hilarious cheap tricks and childish ways of cheating to achieve victory. He tries and fails to shove a boulder on Inuyasha and isolate Shippo, for example.
When Shippo realizes Soten is just a child, the two engage in a hysterical drawing war to prove their supremacy, with the winner getting to own the Kagome's magical crayons. The breezy, lighthearted episode is a reminder of what a fun and adorable character Shippo is.
6 Episode 72
The premise of Inuyasha episode 72 leads to one long, hilarious practical joke. In order to gain the necessary skills to break through Naraku's barrier, Inuyasha seeks training from the almighty Totosai. When he arrives for training, Inuyasha meets Bunza, a lynx demon also in need of training.
Inuyasha risks his life to save Bunza's family, which is under attack from a ruthless demon. After he completes the daring mission, master Totosai reveals that his training regiment was to have Inuyasha and Bunza draw him a bath because he was too lazy to handle it himself. For all of the sad storylines in the Inuyasha anime, this one is a pure delight.
5 Episode 79
One of Inuyasha's funniest characters is Jaken, the small green blob-like demon who acts as Sesshomaru's right-hand minion. In Episode 79, Jaken repeatedly and hysterically fails to steal Inuyasha's iconic Tessaiga sword.
Some of Jaken's failed attempts include opening a free sword sharpening business, which backfires when Inuyasha's friends deliver countless weapons that take up all of his time. Jaken's repeated failure to obtain the sword until the very end provides countless laughs, including falling asleep just as Inuyasha delivers the Tessaiga for sharpening.
4 Episode 93
Dubbed a lecherous monk, Miroku is one of the funniest characters on the show. In Episode 93, he realizes someone has been impersonating him, prompting a wide search for the culprit. When the person is identified, the reason for his ruse is funny as can be.
After being accused of swindling a village and held against his will, Miroku ensures the villagers that he was with Inuyasha and the gang when the crime was committed. He repeatedly claims his innocence, only for the tanuki Hachiemon to confess that he concocted the whole scheme and pretended to be Miroku because he was merely hungry. Although it's one of the many things in the Inuyasha series that makes no sense, it was all done for a bite of food!
3 Episode 127
The fish-out-of-water premise of episode 127 comes with no shortage of laughter. Kagome returns to the normal world and experiences culture shock at her high-school culture festival, which leads to an extremely funny discovery.
When Kagome is put in charge of arranging the festival, her sense of responsibility turns to abject terror when she learns that the dehydrated food she was brought with her from the other side will turn into demons if they are boiled. Of course, she makes the discovery a little too late. The episode features one of Kagome's funniest subplots, who usually has a much firmer grasp on things.
2 Episode 160
Episode 160 is funny and endearing in equal measure. When Inuyasha damages Kagome's new bicycle loaned to her by a neighbor, she reprimands him to no end. Inuyasha spends the rest of the episode trying desperately to repair the bike, only to damage it worse and worse.
Beyond the hilarity of seeing such a capable character struggle so mightily, Inuyasha ultimately endears himself to Kagome's friends after meeting them for the first time. The funny premise with the bicycle ultimately fortifies Inuyasha and Kagome's relationship in a more meaningful way than most episodes.
1 Episode 164
Shippo becoming possessed by a parasite comes with several hysterical interactions in episode 164 of Inuyasha, a mere three away from the finale. No matter how hard Kagome and the others try to capture him before the villagers end his life, Shippo hilariously outfoxes them at every turn.
One nefarious tactic that Shippo exhibits in the form of a hilarious demonic pink balloon includes tangling Sango and Miroku in sticky rice. The mischief he causes throughout the episode is so unlike Shippo's normal character that one can't help but chuckle.
