Every Green Lantern Confirmed Killed in Explosive New Era

0

The Green Lantern Corp's intergalactic homeworld and safe haven of Oa has suffered a devasting attack, bringing with it considerable losses to the Green Lanterns themselves.

Following last month's cataclysmic events, writer Geoffrey Thorne (Future State: Green Lantern) along with artists Tom Raney (Threshold) and Marco Santucci (Aquaman)'s follow-up issue Green Lantern #4 has the fallout of this disastrous development. In an effort to annihilate the Green Lantern John Stewart, a group of unknown terrorists has laid siege on the homeworld of the Green Lantern Corps. Not only does the mysterious force successfully assassinate Koyos of the Guardians of the Universe but has rendered the planet's power battery completely extinguished. The attack has irrevocably scattered several Lanterns across space, leaving the remaining available Green Lanterns to be John Stewart, newly instated councilor Sojourner Mullein, former Red Lantern liaison Simon Baz, and Mullein's rambunctious but courageous young sidekick Keli Quintela a.k.a. Teen Lantern. With every remaining Lantern either dead, injured, or missing, Mullein turns to her young sidekick with a working power ring.

Though this is far from the first time Oa has faced an attack, the recent onslaught leaves the galaxy's foremost police force in a critically weakened position. While Mullein, Stweart, and Baz were able to avert the chaos, many of their dedicated teammates were not so lucky. Green Lanterns confirmed as casualties in Oa's attack are Isamot Kol, Arisia Rrabb, and Jinko Sin, with several others presumably a part of the lineup. Jinko Sin may be a relatively obscure member of the Corp, but Arisia Rrabb and Isamot Kol are two classic Green Lantern figures.  Long before Teen Lantern, Arisia initially assumed the role of Oa's teenage Green Lantern with ties to both Earth and outer space. Rrabb has even been pronounced dead before; only this time unfortunately seems to be real. The other major Lantern causality, Isamot Kol, was assigned to sector 2682 as a native of the planet Thangar which serves as the home to both Kol's race the Lizarkons as well as Hawkman and the Thangarians. Introduced in 2005, Kol's claws, fangs, and unshakeable willpower made him an ideal candidate for Green Lantern recruitment in the wake of an assault by fear entity Parallax.

As if an all-out war on Oa wasn't enough, Lanterns Alif Kon, Zolol, Tigraf Bel Jen, Ash-Pak-Glif, Morro, and potentially others have all been targeted by bounty hunters for elimination. However, not all may be as dire as it seems with few Lanterns such as Iolande and Rot Lop Fan located by Sojourner, though the severity of their state or power ring are yet to be determined. Then, there are a pair of missing Lanterns in fan-favorite characters Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner of Sector 2814 (Earth), who have both managed to escape the harrowing events.

Even when the perpetrators of the brazen attack on the Green Lantern Corps are found, it is going to take time for the police force to completely rebuild and revitalize their home planet. With the death of numerous beings, a recruitment effort for a new era of Lanterns may be imminent.
