Radcliffe V Chester FC - Match Thread #7 - Pre-Season Friendly - 24/07
Our last match was last night as a Chester FC XI won 0-3 away against Macclesfield FC in what was yet another encouraging result. Our first half showing was really promising as we got to grips of the 4G surface nice and early, while we controlled large periods of the encounter with our possession. Only seven minutes in Ethan Cartwright made it 0-1 to us with a fantastic powerful strike, as he capitalised on a failed Macclesfield clearance. Five minutes later Ethan Cartwright was at it again, as he this time angled a lovely shot into the bottom corner to make it 0-2 to us following great play by George Waring. A very solid half from us which resulted in us heading into half time with a comfortable advantage to boot. Meanwhile, the second period was a lot more equal as Macc conjured up more possession and were unlucky to not have scored. Just one minute into the half George Waring maintained our healthy lead to make it 0-3 to us, by following up a deflected shot with a great finish. Although Macclesfield pressured us in and around the box, we held on to secure a great win and a clean sheet.
Radcliffe play just one league below us in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division where they will look to consolidate in their second campaign in the third tier of non-league this upcoming season. It was The Boro’s debut season in Step 3 last season following promotion from Step 4 the year before, which saw them sat in a comfortable lower mid table position well clear of the drop zone, before their campaign was sadly brought to an early close due to Covid. Our opponents will certainly be hoping to push on this campaign though to prove that they can more than compete with themselves in Step 3. We will be up against one former Seal later on today, who is centre midfielder Rhain Hellawell. Rhain graduated from our academy back in July 2018, but unfortunately he was unable to make a name for himself in our first team which lead to spells out on loan elsewhere, while in May 2019 he was sadly released from us. In January of last year he was snapped up by Radcliffe, which is where he has been at ever since.
Really looking forward to my second away day in the space of 24 hours as I’ll be setting off to Radcliffe in a few hours. Having ticked the Neuven Stadium off last year I know what to expect there, but it isn’t a bad ground in all fairness with some nice facilities. Hopefully The Seals will complete the perfect weekend by notching up our fifth win in a row to bolster our extremely encouraging pre-season campaign. Come On City!
