Turner & Hooch: The 8 Best Characters (So Far) | ScreenRant

0

Dog lovers rejoiced when the classic canine franchise Turner & Hooch was slated for a reboot on streaming platform Disney+ last year, and the first episode of the cutesy series has arrived. The show is a direct continuation from the original movies, which starred Tom Hanks and featured his grown-up son, daughter, and the newest Hooch on the block.

While Scott Turner Sr. is no longer with his family, the new cast, led by Josh Peck, is quite engaging and the characters have the potential to become favorites with fans of the original movies.

8 Scott Turner Jr.

US Marshall Scott Turner followed in his father's footsteps career-wise and is determined to make an impression at work and get promoted to Chief. He is inscrutably honest and hard-working on the job - returning 35 cents to the department one time for parking. Scott is your guy next door, and instantly likable.

He has big shoes to fill, but his genuine and straightforward character is quite appealing. His initial tussle with Hooch is also gentle, and he clearly has an emotional side, especially in regards to his father, which is shown late into the first episode.

7 Jessica Baxter

Scott's partner Jessica is the perfect combo of whip-smart, sweet, and extremely empowering. Despite being months along in her pregnancy, she continues to work and report on duty, even though her husband thinks that she could take a break.

She's incredibly supportive of her partner and cares for him like a sister would - which includes his dating life, his well-being, and the way he felt about Hooch becoming his dog without anybody really asking him. Her synchronization with Turner and her amazing personality was liked by viewers.

6 Hooch

Everything about Hooch is wonderful and adorable, as is the case with all dogs. He is the same breed as the original Hooch, one of the most iconic dogs in TV history, and he looks just like him. However, the good boy has a unique canine personality of his own.

Being the main character is quite difficult, but Hooch steals people's hearts effortlessly, at Scott's office and on the other end of the screen. His flawless instinct, innate playfulness, magnanimous warmth, and puppy dog eyes make him the ideal partner. The destruction of his owner's spotless apartment was fun to watch too.

5 Laura Turner

Sister extraordinaire to Turner, Laura followed in her mother's footsteps and became a veterinarian. She's seen handling cats, birds, and sundry animals, taking care of their treatments, which is why she can't take on Hooch's responsibility. It's safe to say that it's Laura's sort of unceremonious dumping of the pooch on Scott's doorstep that changes his life.

Like many of TV's famous brother and sister relationships, Turner has a great and supportive relationship with Scott and her family. She visits and helps him out with Hooch whenever she can and she's also a good mother too.

4 Erica Mouniere

Canine behaviorist Erica is an expert with dogs, and a magician too; she is one of the few people who understands Hooch and makes him feel calm and composed. She seems like a good match for the younger Scott, or at least she hopes to be.

The character is reassuring and gives the dog's perspective on the show, which they can't give themselves. It's also cute to see the interactions she has with the US Marshall, which almost always involve a slobbery dog.

3 Xavier Wilson

Not a lot is known of Xavier as of now, but he is a certified cool guy. Unrushed and laidback, he looks like he has a lot of wisdom to offer, especially since he is Scott's senior. The hard to impress Marshall appreciated Turner and Hooch's rescue mission of the missing witness and even gave him a "shaka" to show it.

His quirky wardrobe, accessories, and friendly demeanor, along with his enigmatic personality make him a character to watch out for on the series. He knows what all the off-beat cool stuff is.

2 Matthew Garland

A curiously insightful kid, Laura's son and Scott's little nephew, Matthew, adds some characteristic, playful energy to the new Turner & Hooch, which was present in the original in heaps. Matthew provides some context to Scoot Sr. and Jr.'s relationship with his loose lips and brings a tear to the eye with his heartwarming drawing of both the Scotts and their unruly dog.

Similar to Jeremy Maguire's role as the likable Joe Pritchard on Modern Family, Maguire's Matt is sassy and clever in a way only little boys are: he is fascinated with Hooch's slobber, but also stands his ground when Scotty tries to palm the pup off to him.

1 James Mendez

Chief James Mendez is supposed to be a serious character, what with being everybody's boss, but his hilarious equation with Hooch is perhaps the funniest thing on the show. Hooch loves Chief Mendez's pants, so he worms his way in between his legs all the time, much to the discomfort of the Chief.

However, Mendez is not unkind to the dog but warily resigned to his fate as Hooch's favorite toy in the office. He tolerates his pouncing and scratching, and happily offers Hooch the opportunity to become a K9 dog, so long as Erica trains him to behave a bit more.
