U.S. stocks open higher after jobless claims report

NEW YORK, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks rose on Thursday morning as investors parsed the nation's jobless claims numbers.

Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 139.34 points, or 0.40 percent, to 34,932.01. The S&P 500 increased 13.80 points, or 0.31 percent, to 4,416.46. The Nasdaq Composite Index added 46.99 points, or 0.32 percent, to 14,827.52.
