German shares close higher Thursday

FRANKFURT, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- German stocks close higher on Thursday, with the benchmark DAX index up 52.54 points, or 0.33 percent, to close at 15,744.67 points.

Pharmaceutical company Merck won the most among the blue chips, with its shares up 6.83 percent. Manufacturing and electronics company Siemens and aircraft engine manufacturer MTU Aero rose by 2.60 percent and 2.54 percent respectively.
