THE boss behind “London’s worst tourist attraction” the Marble Arch Mound has admitted that his council made a mistake.

The £2million mound promised “an experience of the great outdoors” with sweeping views of central London.

But its shabby turf and a line of rubbish bins by the entrance saw disappointed visitors, who paid up to £8 each to climb it, brand it a “slag heap”.

It closed after just two days to everyone except those who had bought online tickets in advance.

Stuart Love is the £210,000-a-year chief executive at the Tory-led Westminster City Council.

Responsibility for the mound ultimately falls to him as London Mayor Sadiq Khan said the plans “did not reach the criteria” to be considered by the Greater London Authority. Mr Khan knew nothing about the eyesore until it had been built.

Mr Love said: “We wanted to open the mound in time for the summer holidays and we did not want to disappoint people who had already booked tickets.

“We made a mistake and we apologise to everyone who hasn’t had a great experience on their visit.”
