Belarus says tightens border security

MINSK – Belarusian border guards have been ordered by the president “to increase security” on the national border, the State Border Committee’s spokesperson Anton Bychkovsky said.

“The green border was additionally strengthened in the first place. The number of patrol teams was increased, and a maneuver was conducted [to reallocate] forces and resources from secondary areas to the more significant ones,” Bychkovsky told Interfax on August 5.

Given the current situation, border agencies have updated their interaction with the military and the Internal Troops of the Interior Ministry to form reserves from units, he said.

Earlier on August 5 Lukashenko ordered law enforcers to close every meter of the border.
