When Annette Releases In More Theaters (& How To Watch)

0

Leos Carax's intriguing new movie Annette has hit theaters – so where can you watch it, and when will it hit a streaming service like Amazon Prime? The musical drama film stars Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard as Henry and Ann, a celebrity couple whose lives are turned upside down by the arrival of their daughter, Annette. Henry is a contentious stand-up comic, and Ann is an opera soprano. The movie, which also features Simon Helberg (The Big Bang Theory), is set in Los Angeles and is likely to examine parenthood and the private/public divide of creative personalities in a humorous and offbeat way.

Premiering as the opening film for Cannes in July 2021, Annette received a polarized response from critics, many of whom found it lacked a message, and others who fell for its bizzarro schtick. On the whole, it has a 70 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes (and an 88 percent positive audience score). What the critics could agree on is that Annette is a stylistically original sight to behold. With Driver and Cotillard both lending their voices to a soundtrack scored by Sparks, there's a swell of interest in the film

As an indie auteur film, Annette's release plan won't mirror other recent releases like Black Widow or The Suicide Squad. But keen viewers will be able to catch the film on its release both in cinemas or from home on a streaming platform soon after. Here's when viewers can see Annette in theaters or on streaming.

Annette had its official theatrical release date on Friday August 6, 2021, but the cinema release is limited. Fans of Carax, Driver, and Cotillard will have to make their way to an independent cinema to catch the movie. If the film receives a lot of attention on release it may be put into wider release, though with a streaming release on the horizon and the changed nature of the cinemagoing crowds due to Covid-19 and, particularly, the Delta variant, that seems unlikely.

For those wanting to catch the musical but unwilling to go to the cinema, Annette will release on Amazon Prime on August 20, 2021, just two weeks after its theatrical release. Unlike other recent releases like Jungle Cruise, the movie will not require an extra payment on top of a subscription as with Premier Access on Disney+Annette will be free to watch for those with an Amazon Prime Video subscription.
