Man seriously injured and cop taken to hospital after taxi and police car in horror crash
A MAN has been seriously injured and a cop taken to hospital after a horror crash between a taxi and police van.
Officers were responding to an emergency in the Openshaw area of Manchester just before midnight when they collided with the taxi.
A 45-year-old man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries where he remains in a stable condition.
It is not clear if the man was a passenger or taxi driver, MEN reports.
A police officer was also taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.
Dramatic pictures show the police car on its side with debris strewn across the road.
The crash has been referred to the Professional Standards Branch in line with normal procedure.
Greater Manchester Police said a backup patrol attended the original emergency callout.

Greater Manchester Police said: “Shortly after 11.50pm last night (Sunday 8 August 2021) a police car was responding to an emergency incident when it collided with a taxi on the junction of Alan Turing Way and Ashton Old Road.
“Emergency services attended and a 45-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries where he remains in a stable condition.
“An officer sustained minor injuries which were treated at hospital. He has since been discharged.”
