Warning! Spoilers for Immortal Hulk #49 by Marvel Comics below
Marvel Comics just confirmed that when it comes to dealing with the Hulk, the Thing is a much better hero than Captain America. In the latest issue of Immortal Hulk, Ben Grimm took a much different approach to deal with the Jade Giant than Captain America in a tense situation, proving he's much more equipped to deal with the gamma monster.
The Hulk and the Thing's relationship has evolved over time, as the two Marvel strongmen have battled in some of the publisher's best slugfests on multiple occasions since first meeting more than 60 years ago. In the Immortal Hulk series, Ben has recently put his differences with the Hulk aside and offered him a helping hand during his most trying times. In the penultimate issue of the series, the Thing's care and approach to dealing with the Hulk just made Captain America look like a massive jerk in comparison.
In Immortal Hulk #49 by Al Ewing, Joe Bennett, Ruy Jose, Belardino Brabo, Paul Mounts, and Cory Petit, the Hulk deals with the fallout of the Avengers' attempt to stop him. Earlier in the series, Captain America was particularly harsh about his longtime Avengers' allies' true purpose, calling him out for causing damage and wrecking lives. Cap admitted it was a tough call but that his former friend needed to be contained. Meanwhile, Ben Grimm offered the Hulk warmth and assistance in helping Hulk complete his mission to find the Leader.

Ben Grimm has seen the Hulk and his different personas struggle to move forward with all the trouble that comes from simply existing as a gamma monster. He understands how little control the Hulk sometimes has and the challenges he faces and wants to help him any way that he can. While Captain America has already made up his mind about the Hulk, the Thing is willing to change his point of view and be a much-needed friend in trying times. It's quite a tender moment.
In this situation, Captain America's efforts to stop the Hulk from causing more damage made him hard-headed and unwilling to look beyond what was really happening with his former friend. Thankfully, Ben Grimm realized the Hulk needed a helping hand and offered it during one of his most troubled times. It's a great moment for the Thing and a bad one for Captain America - as only one hero did the right thing. Hopefully, Cap reflects on how wrong he was in the encounter and learns from it. Immortal Hulk #49 is in comic book stores now.
