Despite rumors to the contrary, The Medium will now launch on PlayStation 5 via PlayStation Plus, according to a Bloober Team developer. Horror title The Medium hit PC and Xbox Series X|S earlier this year in late January. Details about its potential migration to PlayStation hardware first made the rounds in June, thanks to an ESRB rating listing. Bloober Team officially confirmed The Medium's PS5 release a couple of weeks thereafter, announcing the new version for a September due date.
Throughout the year, a handful of newer third-party titles have launched day-and-date on PlayStation Plus. Control: Ultimate Edition serves as one example of this rare phenomenon. Oddworld: Soulstorm, which released day-and-date on PS Plus in April, counted as another notable instance. Thus, it hardly comes as a surprise that speculation about a PS Plus launch for The Medium recently emerged online, complete with imagery suggesting Haven and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 will round out next month's lineup for the Sony subscription service.
In response to the supposed PlayStation Plus imagery, which indicates The Medium's PS5 version will launch on the subscription service, Bloober Team CMO Tomasz Gawlikow (via GamingBolt) decided to set the record straight. Gawlikow addressed the rumor in a brief Twitter post on his personal account, telling followers The Medium will "definitely" not make its way to PlayStation Plus. The tweet in question features below:
While The Medium is not coming to PS Plus, subscribers on Sony's newest console can still take advantage of a 10 percent discount. PlayStation Plus members can pre-order the title now for $44.99, $5 off the horror game's regular price of $50. According to the PlayStation Store listing, this discount offer ends on The Medium's due date of September 3.
A third-person psychological horror adventure, The Medium drops players into the role of Marianne, a medium who can traverse both the real world and the spirit realm. This notably creates interesting gameplay challenges, wherein the Marianne of reality must solve puzzles to help Spirit Marianne push ahead and vice versa. Bloober Team managed to accomplish such a feat with a split-screen feature made possible by powerful PCs and current-gen consoles from Microsoft and Sony.
