Pokémon Unite Fan Designs Politoed With Moves & Evolutions

0

A Pokémon Unite fan shared a Politoed concept, complete with a moveset in hopes that the Water-type Pokémon would appear in the popular free-to-play MOBA title. Developed by TiMi Studio Group and published by Nintendo, Pokémon Unite was released on the Nintendo Switch in July, with a version for mobile phones coming in September.

With Blastoise coming soon, Pokémon Unite is always evolving with characters arriving from old and new generations alike, waiting to join teams of five. Trainers would need to strike a balance with their teams, taking recent buffs and nerfs into account, so they could score goals and defeat their opponents. With over 20 Pokémon available, there are a lot of strategic combinations to choose from. Since the game is relatively new, players online discussed how fan-favorites like Mewtwo would work in the game without breaking it entirely.

Reddit user Owlydowly showed off a detailed idea for Politoed as a ranged All-Rounder Pokémon, complete with great artwork to help explain the character’s moves and evolution line. The Pokémon starts off as a Poliwag and evolves to Poliwhirl by level 4, and finally to Politoed by level 8. The goal for Politoed players is to control the battlefield by making puddles. The Pokémon can use its Drizzle ability which leaves puddles that can restore its own health, all while increasing teammates’ speeds and sabotaging opponents’ movements. A basic attack becomes boosted with every third attack which will leave behind another puddle. The Bubble attack can deal damage and create puddles from a distance and can be upgraded to Water Pulse or Echoed Voice when Poliwag evolves into Poliwhirl. Splash is a recovery move that restores HP, which can be upgraded to Bounce or Dive when the Pokémon evolves into Politoed.

Even as a Poliwag, this Pokémon seems to be a fun and strategic way to play, or even watch with Pokémon Unite's new spectator mode. It could be very satisfying watching the arena fill up with puddles. Poliwhirl and Politoed’s upgraded moves are also formidable. Water Pulse can shove and damage opponents, or even stun them when it explodes after the blast of water reaches its maximum distance. Echoed Voice can push enemies away. Bounce has Politoed jump on unsuspecting opponents, with a reset cooldown whenever the Pokémon lands in a puddle. Dive lets the player dash underwater, become invincible in a short amount of time, and jump out to deal damage, leaving puddles at both locations. Finally, Politoed’s devastating Unite move Resonant Call would attack opponents with a shout, summoning Poliwags from nearby puddles to do the same.

Owlydowly’s concept is very creative and well-thought-out. Currently, Pokémon Unite has been online for a month and its community is eagerly discussing and sharing ideas on how to make the MOBA better. Perhaps TiMi will listen to feedback from their fans. For now, fans will not have to wait much longer for the mobile port and the classic Kanto Pokémon, Blastoise.
