Olivia Stephens is a rising voice in the comic community, as she's best known for drawing the romance webcomic, Alone, and the black and white supernatural western comic, Darlin'. In addition, the talented creator has contributed illustrations for the New York Times as well as the Guardian. Next week, Stephens will debut her first original graphic novel, "Artie and the Wolf Moon." Published by Lerner Books as part of their Graphic Universe imprint, the book is a coming-of-age story about self-discovery and family, which some serious spookiness mixed in.
In Artie and the Wolf Moon, Artie Irvin discovers her mom is actually a werewolf - leading her to learn more about her history and father. As Artie finds her new footing, she'll develop a crush on one of her friends Maya. However, while things are seemingly going well, she'll soon discover the woods are far scarier than she could ever imagine. Artie and the Wolf Moon won't come out for another week, but Screen Rant is happy to show off a few exclusive pages for the upcoming graphic novel.
In the preview, Artie is very curious about her history, as she quizzes her mother about whether she's also a werewolf. Artie's mom tells her curious daughter she isn't sure, as her dad was human.
Artie's mom admits in normal circumstances, her werewolf side would have shown up when she was little. So Artie is understandably upset that her mother didn't let her know about her werewolf origins.
However, Artie is still blown away by the situation and is very interested in her mom's potential powers. She is warned that wolves aren't the scariest things that roam the woods.
Artie and the Wolf Moon is set to be a fun adventure with plenty of heart and darkness packed in as well. Readers will surely wonder if Artie has werewolf powers as well and how that might change her in the story. Artie and the Wolf Moon by Olivia Stephens will be available on September 7, 2021.
