Katie Kubert Continues Family Legacy at DC | Screen Rant

0

Katie Kubert of DC Comics has been promoted to the position of Senior Editor and Team Leader for DC's Global Publishing Innovation Group. The division includes some exciting properties and concepts, like DC's horror line, audio, global, and digital. The Global Publishing Innovation Group is also involved in DC's new digital publishing partnership with Webtoon, which will bring some of DC Comics' most popular superheroes to the digital publishing platform in exclusive content.

Kubert comes from a long line of comics greats. Her grandfather was the legendary Joe Kubert who rose to fame not only for his own creations but for his work on DC Comics' Sgt. Rock and Hawkman. Additionally, he was the founder of The Kubert School, which later taught a host of big names in comics art. Katie's uncles are Adam and Andy Kubert, who are both frequent contributors to both Marvel and DC comics, among other publishers. Katie is also the cousin of creator Emma Kubert, who is known for her work on Image's Inkblot, as well as her contributions to DC as a freelancer. It's safe to say that Kubert comes from a long line of people who have contributed greatly to comics, but she has her own impressive comics résumé. Prior to her promotion, Kubert served as a pre-press coordinator before working her way up to editor. After a brief stint at Marvel (where she edited both X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy stories), Kubert returned to DC in 2017. In her time at DC, Kubert has contributed quite a bit. She editorially oversaw the reinvention of Batgirl in 2014, in which the character make a change from being Batman's occasional sidekick to being able to step out on her own as a hero.

On August 30, Kubert announced her promotion to the position of Senior Editor and Team Leader of the Global Publishing Innovation Group at DC. While it may sound like a new addition to the company, it is actually a department that has been around for a while and was previously headed up by the current editor-in-chief of DC, Marie Javins.

Comics is definitely a family business for the Kuberts, with so many members contributing artistically and behind the scenes. The praise from the creators who have worked with Kubert poured in on Twitter when she announced her promotion, with editors, artists, and writers alike from across the comics industry offering their congratulations and praise for her previous work and current promotion. In her new position, the Fortnite/Batman crossover digital comic will also likely fall under her purview.

The passion Kubert clearly has for the comics industry and those who work in it is bound to make her a valuable asset to her division at DC Comics. With so many exciting, upcoming announcements that fall under the "Global Publishing Innovation Group" banner and DC's 2021 FanDome this fall, there is sure to be lots of news from Katie Kubert and her team.
