Spider-Man 2 Actor Responds To Joke About No Way Home Return

0

Spider-Man 2 actress Donna Murphy responds to a joke about her returning in Spider-Man: No Way Home. While Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, releasing on September 3, and Eternals are the next two films on Marvel's Phase 4 slate, neither are as fiercely anticipated as the Spider-Man threequel. The first trailer confirmed theories regarding the film's multiverse-centric storyline and broke a viewership record previously held by Avengers: Endgame.

After a dispute between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures over the character's rights, the two sides eventually came to an agreement, allowing Tom Holland's web-slinging superhero to return for a third solo outing set in the MCU. No Way Home will pick up right where the last film left off after J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) exposes Spider-Man's secret identity to the world. Peter will turn to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to erase everyone's memories, but his spell goes horribly wrong and unleashes villains from past Spider-Man franchises into the MCU. The trailer revealed the return of Alfred Molina's Doc Ock while also teasing Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin and Jamie Foxx's Electro.

Given Spider-Man: No Way Home's premise, fans have been speculating about the return of seemingly every character from Sam Raimi and Marc Webb's films. One fan even went as far as to joke on Twitter that Donna Murphy, who played Doc Ock's wife and assistant Rosalie Octavius in Spider-Man 2, is confirmed to return in No Way Home. Murphy herself responded to the tweet, seemingly throwing cold water on her rumored return, though the chances were already slim at best. Check out the interaction below:

Rosalie was killed during her husband's public demonstration of the fusion power reactor which goes haywire. However, that hardly rules out the possibility of her appearing in No Way Home. Doc Ock sacrificed himself at the end of Spider-Man 2 to destroy his dangerous experiment, but will now be brought back in No Way Home by way of the mysterious multiverse.

Murphy seemingly denying that she will appear in No Way Home doesn't necessarily eliminate the possibility that she could. Considering Marvel's strict policies regarding secrecy, actors essentially have no other choice to deny their involvement when faced with questions. However, in this case, Murphy openly offered this comment in an attempt to shut down rumors. Murphy is just one of many actors rumored to be reprising their roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home, so there will be plenty of exciting reprisals for fans to hold out hope for.
