Big Brother: Derek Xiao Admits To Being 'Overly Confident' In The Game
The newest member of the Big Brother jury, Derek Xiao, is admitting he was "overly confident" while playing the game. During last week's Head of Household competition, Derek lost the power to Sarah Beth Steagall by milliseconds. Then later in the week, Sarah Beth used her first Head of Household reign to backdoor Derek. Derek was ultimately evicted by a vote of 5-2 against one of his closest friends in the house, Claire Rehfuss.
Prior to his eviction, Derek had the opportunity to play for safety in the High Roller's Room. With a total of 200 BB Bucks, Derek was eligible to play in the Chopping Block Roulette; however, he ultimately opted out of playing despite production allegedly encouraging Derek to do so. Derek's intentions in turning down the opportunity was to save his BB Bucks to play in the Coin of Destiny the following week. Unfortunately for Derek, he was evicted before he had the opportunity to cash in his BB Bucks to play in the casino game.
As Derek has had time to reflect on his game strategy this summer, he is realizing where he went wrong. In an interview with Us Weekly, Derek admitted that he was "overly confident" in the game. He continued on to admit that not playing in the Chopping Block Roulette was his biggest regret from the summer. Had he played in the bonus competition, Derek could've potentially still been in the house right now. Derek admitted, "I just should have played it. And I think going back, I had everything I needed in front of me to realize that I should play the game, but I was overly confident in what I thought." Prior to his eviction, Derek had one of the highest amount values of BB Bucks amongst the houseguests.
Now that Derek is no longer competing inside the house, he has to start thinking about which houseguest is playing the best game. As of now, Derek believes that Xavier Prather is a very strong competitor. He said, "I think X is playing a very, very good game." Derek continued on to explain that not only does Xavier have an "amazing reputation in the house," but he also has a very strong social game. Although Xavier has had his fair share of wins this summer, he is not viewed as a threat to the other houseguests. This is why he has yet to be targeted. Derek exclaimed, "So, honestly, he’s been executing flawlessly."
Derek's extra boost of confidence in the game most likely came from the amount of BB Bucks he was receiving each week from America's vote. As soon as the new twist was announced, fans were quick to show their support for Derek on social media, resulting in him racking up BB Bucks quite quickly. Although he is sad that his time inside the house has come to an end, Derek is grateful for the opportunity he had this summer. He would even do it again if he was ever asked to return.
