DC Confirms its Most Dangerous Comics Villains of All Time
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Infinite Frontier #4!
In Infinite Frontier #4, DC Comics just confirmed its most dangerous villains of all time. This occurs as Director Bones shows Agent Chase the range of villains and heroes who have impacted Earth-0 in the past. He explains that some of Earth-0's most dangerous troubles come from other worlds.
The exemption of Darkseid is most likely because Bones doesn't want to draw attention to him. As it's suggested that he's made a deal with someone to protect Earth-0. That someone most likely is Darkseid, considering that Bones knew about the alternate Captain Atom was working for Darkseid. However, it's evident that this new version of Darkseid will be among these villains' ranks, once his plans are enacted. Readers won't have to wait long, as Darkseid has been teased to appear in Infinite Frontier #5!
But who are the villains in Bones' line-up and what makes them so powerful? They are some of the most notable threats that the DC universe has faced in its history. They aren't strictly the most powerful villains, if Bones was going by brute power, Doomsday would be among them. Instead, Bones' hologram highlights characters who have the ability to alter existence.
The root cause of the biggest continuity reset in comic book history, the Anti-Monitor is arguably DC's most infamous villain. He has the power to send out anti-matter waves with the ability to absorb all positive matter and destroy entire universes. When compared to other comic book villains like Thanos, the Anti-Monitor is far more powerful. Not only did he destroy an entire universe, but he wiped out most of the multiverse before being stopped.
During Crisis on Infinite Earths, millions of people died because of his destructive conquest to reduce everything in existence into anti-matter. Among those people were hundreds of DC's heroes, including the likes of Supergirl and the Flash. The Anti-Monitor has returned since but was at his most powerful during this event and that's why he deserves to be ranked among the multiverse's most dangerous threats.
An imp from the fifth dimension, Mister Mxyzptlk has the power to do a lot of damage, thanks to his magical abilities. Superman is vulnerable to magical attacks, so if Mxyzptlk ever wanted to take down the world's strongest hero, he could. But he is more interested in messing with Superman, than taking him down.
Mother of Mar Novu, Perpetua is a celestial being that has been around since the dawn of creation. Originally a member of the Hands, she broke free of their cycle and created the first multiverse. Although Perpetua was locked away for thousands of years, when she broke free she regained her past army and went on a mission to recreate the multiverse to match her dark vision for the world.
Also, Perpetua was seen wielding crisis energy as she fought the Justice League. Although portrayed as more powerful than the Anti-Monitor, Perpetua was only able to destroy universes one at a time.
The watcher of space and time, Doctor Manhattan has the power to change matter into anything that he desires. Like Perpetua, but a step up, Doctor Manhattan can create and destroy matter. He can see all of space and time and has the ability to manipulate it to his will.
However, Doctor Manhattan isn’t exactly evil. But the sheer power that he possesses is deemed as a threat due to how ridiculously powerful his abilities are. Essentially, he is the biggest threat in DC's entire omniverse, even over The Source.
Like a lot of the other villains surrounding him, Mister Mind was able to create a new multiverse. At one point during the 52 series, Mister Mind was able to evolve into his big form seen on this panel. Additionally, Mister Mind was able to eat throughout space and time itself, creating a new branch of the multiverse. Apart from that storyline, the Shazam villain normally is seen fighting alongside the Monster Society of Evil. It's clear that his actions in 52 is why he is featured in Bones line-up of supervillains.
Lost in the Phantom Zone, Tuoni, a past Lord of Order, was rebuilt by Kem-L, the creator of the Eradicator. He was able to escape through the Fortress of Solitude and began his reign of havoc on Earth. Tuoni renamed himself, Dominus, on his arrival to Earth. He is a higher being of almost unlimited magical powers with the power to deceive entire realities using his magic. His inclusion is most definitely because of his ability to deceive every living being, which is an enormous threat to normal reality.
Brainiac God, also known as Convergence Brainiac, is among the more obscure villains featured in Bones' villain line-up. The huge, overpowering three-eyed villain is from the Convergence storyline. He is an extremely powerful god-like being that existed outside of space and time. This version of Brainiac collected entire universes and timelines, rather than capturing singular cities in bottles. His sheer size is a threat to the citizens of Earth, but his power to manipulate space and time makes him worthy of this list.
Hank Hall is the only villain to be featured twice here, even though it's very possible that Monarch is the Captain Atom version of himself. Hank became Extant when he unleashed all of his powers that were hidden to him. Extant's ultimate goal was to control time itself.
His abilities allowed him to alter the future to create an army fit for his multiversal plans. This version of Hank Hall was ultimately retconned, but Infinite Frontier has made it a point that every past timeline is now canon again. So, that's why Extant is featured here.
The Flash's arch-nemesis, Eobard Thawne aka the Reverse-Flash, is an incredibly dangerous speedster. He is best known for being the villain of Flashpoint. However, the reason why he is so dangerous is because of his ability to change the timeline. Reverse-Flash can do exactly what Barry Allen did and create new versions of Flashpoint at any time.
The Batman of Earth-22 is known for acquiring cosmic power greater than his initial master, Perpetua. Despite his villainous feats during Dark Knights: Death Metal, The Batman Who Laughs was once a hero. The reason for his downfall was because of him killing the Joker and getting infected by a deadly toxin. The Batman Who Laughs acquired extreme abilities as he harnessed Doctor Manhattan's cosmic powers. Essentially, making him an all-powerful being of ultimate power.
During Countdown to Final Crisis, Monarch, the Captain Atom version, played a big role as he endeavored to destroy the multiverse using a crisis wave. At the end of the arc, Monarch explodes and causes the entirety of Earth-51 to be destroyed. It just goes to show how powerful the radiation kept within side him is. As aforementioned, all of these villains have a unifying link of having the capability to be universe destroying threats.
