Winds ease, help firefighters battle Caldor Fire to near standstill

Reduced overnight winds helped fire crews make marginal gains toward containing the Caldor Fire south of Lake Tahoe and prevent it from significantly advancing on populated areas or the lake, authorities reported Thursday.
