Captain America's Greatest Villain Just Destroyed His Shield
Warning! Spoilers for Avengers: Tech-On #1 by Marvel Comics below
In Avengers: Tech-On by Marvel Comics, Captain America's shield is about to be blasted and broken into bits by the Red Skull. However, even without his trusted weapon, it seems Captain America will find a new way to take down the powered-up supervillain, as he'll use the technology in his new mech suit to fight back and try to defeat him.
Avengers: Tech-On is a non-canon story showing what would happen if the Avengers were stripped of their powers. In the comic, the Red Skull (who has an all-new look) uses the last remaining particles of the recently destroyed Infinity Stones to gain incredible power. While he's not on the level of Thanos with an Infinity Gauntlet, Red Skull can still use the remnants to change the Marvel Universe - and does so by stripping its greatest heroes of its powers. In response, Tony Stark builds his powerless teammate's new armors to stop the villain before using Red Skull's powers to cause more harm.
In a new preview for Avengers: Tech-On #2 by Jim Zub, Jeff "Chamba" Cruz, and VC's Travis Lanham, the Avengers wear the mech suits for the first time and go head-to-head with the Red Skull. The Stark-designed armors are customized for each hero, with Wolverine's suit even keeping him alive after being depowered nearly killed him. The Avengers charge against Red Skull in one of his facilities in Tokyo, Japan, as the villain arrogantly tells them the armor can't defeat him.
Red Skull tells the heroes that with the powers of the Infinite Mirror Shards, their technology stands no chance against his newfound powers. He sends a powerful blast of energy at Captain America, who tries to block it with his shield. However, the impact causes his shield to shatter into pieces.
While there was little doubt how powerful Red Skull was with the Infinity Mirror Shards after he depowered Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the fact he broke Captain America's shield with ease showcases his true abilities. The moment also shows how Captain America doesn't give up, even when his most trusted and iconic weapon shatters in his hands. Readers can see more of Red Skull, Captain America, and the rest of the Avengers showdown when Avengers: Tech-On comes to comic book stores on Wednesday.
