Interior Minister expects Rada to pass law on arms trafficking in autumn
Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrsky hopes that the Verkhovna Rada will be able to pass a law that will regulate arms trafficking in Ukraine in the coming months.
“We do not have a law on arms trafficking, one of those basic regulations that should regulate the process of issuance, registration, arms trafficking in the country. I am one of the co-authors of the law on weapons and a supporter of the need for such a law,” Monastyrsky said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
He expressed hope that the MPs would support the bill in the coming months.
“I think this fall we will be able to go to the polls again, and the Interior Ministry will unequivocally support the adoption of this law,” the Interior Minister said.
Monastyrsky also said that the bill provides for the creation of a register of legal weapons, the introduction of a service procedure for the purchase of weapons and regulates the procedure for extending the permit for hunting weapons.
At the same time, the Interior Minister said: “I am not a supporter of the legalization of smooth-bore firearms in the country – in fact, the distribution of pistols.”
