Sonic Colors: Ultimate - How to Unlock Rival Rush | Screen Rant
Rival Rush is a new game mode available in Sonic Colors: Ultimate. This update to the original Wii Sonic Colors includes many changes, like removing the life system so players can start over where they left off, a new Jade Wisp which appeared in Team Sonic Racing, and a new racing mode called Rival Rush. In the Rival Rush game mode, players will face off against the legendary Metal Sonic in a 1-on-1 race through an Act within the main 6 worlds.
However, players will need to unlock access to Sonic Colors: Ultimate's Rival Rush mode. This mode functions as Sonic Colors: Ultimate's version of a time trial system. The goal is to reach the end of the act before Metal Sonic to claim victory. Players will also be able to use a variety of Wisps to get ahead in the race.
To unlock Rival Rush in Sonic Colors: Ultimate, players will need to collect a sufficient amount of Red Star Rings scattered around the levels. The game doesn't specify how many Red Star Rings are needed to unlock the game mode, so players should try to collect as many as they come across throughout their adventures in space. This may not be possible right away.
Each planet has a total of 30 Red Star Rings for players to collect, but aiming to collect about half of these per planet should be sufficient for unlocking Rival Rush mode. A pop-up will appear stating that a hidden level is now made available since the player has collected enough Red Star Rings.
On each planet individually, players will need to collect a sufficient amount of Red Star Rings, meaning that unlocking Metal Sonic in one world won't allow him to carry over to the next. It will be much easier to collect every Red Star Ring after players have completed their initial playthrough of the world. This is mainly because some Red Star Rings are located in places that require players to have a specific Wisp ability activated. A handful of Wisps can only be unlocked in the later game. Players looking to make the most out of Sonic Colors: Ultimate would benefit from hunting down all the rings and unlocking Rival Rush after completing the game once. Once it's unlocked, Rival Rush will offer players a true challenge of their platforming and their speed in races against Metal Sonic.
