Black Knight Will Fight The X-Men Before His MCU Debut

0

Part of Marvel's event ending the life of their sorcerer supreme, Death of Doctor Strange: X-Men/Black Knight #1 is a one-shot that connects to the main event. This crossover features Dane Whitman and his daughter Jackie Chopra wielding the cursed Ebony Blade going up against the X-Men. The event will bring together writer Si Spurrier (X-Men: Onslaught Revelation) and artist Bob Quinn (Captain America), who previously worked together on Way of X.

Death of Doctor Strange leads with Strange's death while the limited series asks the question of who did it and who will be replacing the good doctor in his fight against the supernatural forces of evil. There are also plenty of tie-in one-shots, including The Death of Doctor Strange: Spider-Man #1The Death of Doctor Strange: White Fox #1, Death of Doctor Strange: Avengers #1, and Strange Academy Presents: Death of Doctor Strange. The event introduces "The Three Mothers," an ominous trio of villains with magical powers compared to the Black Order of Thanos. While the fourth issue of the limited series will be available in comic book stores this December, so will Death of Doctor Strange: Blade #1 and Death of Doctor Strange: X-Men/Black Knight #1.

Now, Marvel Comics has revealed the cover and general information about the Death of Doctor Strange: X-Men/Black Knight #1 tie-in comic. Spurrier and Quinn are having the Black Knight and Jacks fighting a transformed X-Men, who are attacking London. By their side is Doctor Faiza Hussain (arguably Black Knight's greatest romantic partner), the wielder of the legendary sword of King Arthur, Excalibur. What the X-Men have been transformed by remains a big question, along with how the trio of heroes will be able to save them before an even more dangerous threat takes them all out.

These events take place after Spurrier and Sergio Dávila's Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade series, which served as a great way to reintroduce readers to the character and add plenty of new material to the mythos. That series developed the lineage of the Black Knight (which dates all the way back to Camelot) but also introduced the concept of both Dane and Jacks controlling the power of the Ebony Blade together.

Death of Doctor Strange: X-Men/Black Knight #1 will be out in comic book stores this December 2021 with a cover by Cory Smith (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). This will be a month after Dane Whitman's first appearance in the MCU. He is set to be played by Kit Harrington from Game of Thrones in the Eternals film coming out in November. Since the Black Knight was retconned in the comics to be more powerful than Thor, it will be interesting to see if his portrayal will leave the God of Thunder quaking in his boot or not.
