Star Wars is Revealing the Truth Behind Leia's Bounty Hunter Disguise
Warning: spoilers ahead for Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters: Boushh #1!
In a new preview for Star Wars' upcoming Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters: Boushh #1 one-shot, the bounty hunter whose armor was taken by Princess Leia for her Episode VI disguise is given a new backstory. While Star Wars Legends depicted Boushh working for the criminal organization known as Black Sun, it seems as though he'll now have allies and a tragic origin story as well, offering increased depth and new dynamics to give this bounty hunter more of a place in the wider galaxy.
Tying into the 'War of the Bounty Hunters' crossover event, Boushh #1 will be coming from Doctor Aphra writer Alyssa Wong with art by David Baldeon, revealing the origins of the bounty hunter who is (currently) most famous for his armor and identity being taken by Princess Leia. During Return of the Jedi, Leia disguised herself as Boushh to infiltrate Jabba the Hutt's palace and save Han Solo from his carbonite prison. Now, the background of the actual hunter himself is being revealed in the official Star Wars canon.
Thanks to preview images for the upcoming Boushh one-shot released by StarWars.com, the brand new backstory for the bounty hunter is teased, revealing that Boushh actually led a crew of fellow Ubese warriors who were all exiles, having been banished from their shared homeworld of Uba IV. Furthermore, it seems as though they've all lost family members, including Boushh himself. Enjoy the preview pages and synopsis for Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters: Boushh #1 below:
Before PRINCESS LEIA acquired his armor to infiltrate Jabba the Hutt's palace, BOUSHH roamed the galaxy as a bounty hunter. He and his team of lethal warriors were exiled from their homeworld; but what horrible event from Boushh's past doomed them all to wander with no hope of ever returning? Desperate to survive, Boushh takes a suspicious job from a shadowy organization to assassinate DOMINA TAGGE, the leader of the powerful Tagge Family - a galactic dynasty stretching back countless generations. But Domina is the most dangerous enemy Boushh has ever faced, and the desperate exile has the most difficult choice of his life to make!
Interestingly enough, it does seem as though Boushh will still be working for Black Sun just as he did in Legends, which could spell his eventual demise as the comics get closer to Return of the Jedi, allowing Princess Leia to obtain his armor and identity. Furthermore, it looks as though he and his band of hunters will be going after Domina Tagge, one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy during Star Wars' original trilogy.
But despite bringing some older stories back into the new Star Wars continuity, the new details regarding what seems to be a lost child and his compatriots' shared exile are certainly intriguing, with the name of the comic's story - 'Found' - suggesting that Boushh's crew are less of a gang and more of a found family built around a shared cause or trauma. It's going to be interesting to see this new origin and backstory revealed - and understand what they mean for Leia's decision to pose as Boushh later in the saga - when the full Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters: Boushh #1 releases on September 15.
