Houston residents were grappling with damage and power outages on Wednesday, September 15, in the wake of Tropical Storm Nicholas. Video posted on September 14 shows an awning at a local car wash downed during the storm, which hit coastal Texas as a hurricane before being downgraded to a tropical storm as it neared the Houston area. The National Hurricane Center further downgraded Nicholas to a tropical depression later on that day. The center warned on Wednesday that life-threatening flash floods were expected across portions of the Deep South in the days ahead.
