10 What If..? Characters Most Likely To Appear In The MCU

0

Spoilers for What If..?.

What If...? has provided fans of the MCU and Marvel Comics with a lot of alternate realities and unique takes on classic characters. While they seem to be confined to the animated series for now, recent events in the first season of the show indicate that no barrier is unreachable. Some characters from the show will very likely end up in the live-action MCU.

The only question is which characters cross over, and why. Some of them might be obvious considering that the multiverse concept is going to be the cornerstone of the next phase of the franchise. Others may be less apparent, but would have their place in an infinitely expanding franchise that has literally and figuratively no limits.

10 The Watcher

The most obvious character to cross over into live-action is The Watcher. Comic books fans know that the Fantastic Four owe a lot to the intervention of the god-like being in several stories.

One of the most prominent is "The Galactus Trilogy," which introduced the powerful planet eater in Fantastic Four #48-50. With the Fantastic Four coming to the MCU in the near future, it's a lock that Uatu makes the trip as well. Not only is he key to some of their most important comic book stories, but he could also be essential to the multiverse story in the MCU.

9 Ultron

The Ultron from recent episodes of What If..? is one of the most powerful cosmic beings in the Marvel Universe. Though his story may be resolved at the end of the season, a being of such power seems hard to contain.

He's already broken through the barrier of the multiverse and could very well break into the realities that populate the live-action MCU. In fact, he may already have. If he does, he could represent a threat far beyond any seen on screen to this point. He would be far more powerful than Thanos and Kang The Conqueror combined.

8 Jane Foster

WIth Jane Foster returning in Thor: Love And Thunder as a version of Thor, a big question is which version of Jane will it be. Will it be the Jane fans have met in the MCU, or could it be one from another reality?

If so, there is every chance that the Jane Foster from What If..? is the Jane fans meet in the upcoming movie. That assumes a lot, but there is no doubt of Jane's worthiness to wield Mjolnir and fight the good fight. If her Thor were to fall against Ultron in battle, she could be the one to pick up the hammer to fight another day.

7 Killmonger

Comic book fans know Killmonger is one of Black Panther's greatest villains. What If..? proved that with an even more terrifying version of the character.

He remained alive at the end of the episode he appeared in, meaning he could return, and if Ultron's actions lead to a splintering of some kind in the multiverse, this Killmonger could wind up in another universe. It remains to be seen how the MCU will deal with the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa going forward, but a new hero born of a former villain is one possibility.

6 Frost Giant Loki

Frost Giant Loki is almost certain to appear in live-action. In fact, a version of him already has in the first season of Loki, in a quick Easter egg. With an infinite number of Loki variants in the multiverse, it would make perfect sense for this particular version of the God of Mischief to return.

He could easily make an appearance in season two of the show, as Loki tries to reconnect with Sylvie. He could even be a plot point in the show if the events of What If..? spread beyond the season finale into other series and potentially movies.

5 Party Thor

The multiverse is unlikely to leave any individual franchise in the MCU untouched. If that's the case, Party Thor could make an appearance in Thor: Love And Thunder or even season two of Loki.

If he survives his battle with Ultron, he could find himself stranded in a different universe after The Watcher has brought him and others like Doctor Strange together to fight the sentient android. He could either encounter the TVA or, depending on the plot of the upcoming Thor movie, play a small but fun role in the emergence of Jane Foster as the Goddess of Thunder.

4 Spider-Man, Zombie Hunter

There are a lot of reasons to be excited about Spider-Man: No Way Home. One of them is the prospect of Spidey variants from the multiverse appearing in the movie alongside villains like Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin.

A possible version that could make an appearance is the Spider-Man from What If..? who hunted down zombies with the survivors in New York City. Making him even more intriguing is his use of Doctor Strange's Cloak of Levitation. The connection to the Sorcerer Supreme could bring about a fun cameo in the movie given Strange's role in the plot.

3 Doctor Strange

The dark version of Doctor Strange from What If..? could very well appear in either Spider-Man: No Way Home or Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. Trapped in his own collapsed universe at the end of his episode, he's sure to be freed by The Watcher in the battle against Ultron. That could allow him to appear in live-action.

There are many powerful variants of Doctor Strange in the comics that could appear in the movie, and this version could make sense in the context of exploring the multiverse. He could even be the Doctor Strange in the No Way Home trailer if some fan theories prove to be true.

2 Captain Carter

The creative team behind What If..? has already teased that Captain Carter will return in future episodes of the animated series. As the prototype for Captain Britain in the MCU and potentially the founding member of the Captain Britain Corps from the comics, she makes an enormous amount of sense to appear in live-action.

The Captain Britain Corps is a multiversal defense force committed to defending every reality in existence. She could be the person to create in the MCU given the events that are unfolding in the series at the moment.

1 Steve Rogers

While it seems that the MCU's Captain America won't appear again, a variant of him could easily appear. If Captain Carter shows up in live-action, it's possible that her Steve Rogers does as well. Given that Steve and Peggy's story plays out in What If..? much the same but with the roles flipped, an older Steve from the series could appear in live-action.

He could also go in search of her through the multiverse. If their MCU story so far is any indication, it's a lock that these two will end up together in some way when it's all said and done.
