Star Wars: The 10 Best Duos From The Sequel Trilogy | ScreenRant
Split In a lot of ways, Star Wars has always been centered around iconic duos. Just look at romances like Han Solo and Leia Organa or Anakin and Padmé, as well as friendships like R2-D2 and C-3PO or Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn. There are also great rivalries like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader or Ahsoka and Darth Maul.
That concept remained true throughout the sequel trilogy of films released by Disney. These three movies featured some of the best pairings in all of Star Wars, regardless of whether their relationships were antagonistic, friendly, or romantic. They often stole the show when they shared the screen.
10 Finn & Captain Phasma
The beginning of Finn's (John Boyega) journey in this franchise was about as interesting as it gets. He was a stormtrooper in training who surged past the brainwashing and realized that what he was doing was wrong, turning to the good side of the fight. That put him at odds with his commander, Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie).
Their scenes together in The Force Awakens were strong but things really got going in The Last Jedi. The two actually faced off and went at it in battle, with Finn coming out on top. It's a shame that Phasma was killed off in that installment as one final showdown would've been welcome in episode IX.
9 Poe Dameron & Zorii Bliss
Sometimes, all a duo needs is a single film to manage to stand out. In The Rise of Skywalker, one such pairing was that of Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Zorii Bliss (Keri Russell). Bliss stood out immediately because her character had one of the coolest designs of any Star Wars character.
As soon as she started talking with Poe, fans realized they had a past that was possibly romantic. They were spice runners together and Bliss was clearly someone who could match Poe in wits. He cared about her enough to offer her to join them but she declined, remaining independent until the battle of Exegol.
8 Leia Organa & Rey
For the most part, the relationship between Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) wasn't really explored until after the first film in the trilogy. They mourned Han's death together and Leia trusted Rey to find her brother Luke. The Last Jedi saw them mostly apart until the last few minutes as well.
It really got going in The Rise of Skywalker as audiences saw Leia mentor Rey and even train her in using the Force. You could see that Rey looked at Leia as something of a mother figure. Their bond was sweet and fans loved getting a glimpse of Leia's Jedi training during it. Leia seemed proud at the end to have Rey take on the Skywalker name.
7 Finn & Rose
Poor Finn had a tumultuous run throughout these movies with some inconsistent story beats. That included him having three or four love interests across the trilogy including Rey, Jannah, Poe, and Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran). Their story was mostly confined to The Last Jedi where they went on their own adventure.
Poe sent them, along with BB-8, on a mission to Canto Bight. While many fans don't love this side plot, it did give Rose and Finn time to connect to the point where Rose stopped him from sacrificing himself during the final battle. They shared a kiss but nothing more seemed to come of it as they're just friends in the next movie.
6 Luke Skywalker & Rey
The cliffhanger ending of The Force Awakens saw the return of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) as Rey found where he was hiding. That led to the two of them spending the majority of The Last Jedi together in the same way that Luke and Yoda did in The Empire Strikes Back.
Luke wasn't the most welcoming of mentors as he pushed back against her several times. He ultimately ended up aiding Rey and their scenes together were always intriguing. Seeing someone so hopeful in the Force get taught by someone who had turned his back on it was a unique concept. Luke's return as a Force ghost to be by her side in The Rise of Skywalker was also welcome.
5 Han Solo & Kylo Ren
Each installment of these sequel films saw a member of the original trilogy's core trio die. The first to go was Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and his might have been the most emotionally charged death of them all. He came face to face with his son Ben Solo (Adam Driver), who had turned to the dark side as Kylo Ren.
Their scene together was one of the film's best as you got the sense that Han might have reached through to Ben, only for his son to deal a killing blow. On top of that, Han returned to Kylo in a vision in The Rise of Skywalker, which helped push him back to the light in time to help Rey against Darth Sidious.
4 BB-8 & Poe Dameron
Droids have a special place in the hearts of Star Wars fans. While C-3PO and R2-D2 are the most iconic, the sequels brought the arrival of BB-8, who might be just as popular now. The adorable little droid was the trusty companion of Poe Dameron and BB-8's reaction to the news that Poe might be dead was heartbreaking.
From that moment, you knew these two had a special bond and it was evident again when they met back up for the first time. Although BB-8 went on missions with other characters and was also pretty close to Rey, nothing could top the droid's connection to Poe. They have one of the series' most wholesome friendships.
3 Finn & Rey
As noted, many fans felt like Rey and Finn were headed down a romantic path in The Force Awakens. Although that never officially happens, the chemistry between the two is undeniable and they're always there for each other. Each of them is actually the first person the other manages to truly bond with.
When Finn woke up in The Last Jedi, the first person he asked to see was Rey and their reunion was one that fans loved. Throughout all of the final film, Finn also wanted to tell Rey something important that he wouldn't even share with his buddy Poe, which is telling of how much they trusted one another.
2 Finn & Poe Dameron
Another potential romance for Finn came in the form of Poe Dameron. Despite totally different upbringings, these two men were brought together and they fought for the Resistance alongside Rey. In fact, they both eventually become generals together since they don't feel right doing the job without the other.
Their chemistry was also electric and they got more time together on screen than most, even if they spent a lot of The Last Jedi separated. Finn wore Poe's jacket for a long period of time, they bickered like a married couple, and they genuinely cared about each other's well beings.
1 Kylo Ren & Rey
There was a lot of controversy over the decision to have the Kylo Ren and Rey relationship go somewhere romantic. Regardless of your stance on that, there's no denying how great these two were together. They felt like interesting but basic rivals in The Force Awakens before everything changed in The Last Jedi.
They could communicate through the Force in ways that hadn't been seen in the movies before. Kylo even turned on Supreme Leader Snoke and fought alongside Rey in an epic scene, hoping to bring her to his side. Them being a dyad in the Force made for remarkable moments and no other duo could compete with that.
