Kody and Christine discovered that Ysabel was suffering from scoliosis in 2017 when the young Sister Wives star was only 14 years old. To combat the curvature of her spine, Ysabel wore a brace that she attempted to conceal under her clothes throughout the day before putting on a nighttime brace. As if the brace wasn't awkward and painful enough for Ysabel to carry, the family eventually discovered that the brace wasn't improving Ysabel's back. Although they tried alternatives, Ysabel's doctors came to the consensus that she needed surgery to correct her spine's curve. On September 30, 2020, Ysabel underwent scoliosis surgery. Despite the family's aversion to the medical procedures, Ysabel had a safe operation.
It's now been an entire year since Christine and Ysabel traveled to New Jersey to fix the young reality TV star's spine. The Brown family was initially reluctant to agree to Ysabel getting surgery, but in the past year, Kody's seventh daughter has enjoyed a normal life free of her restricting scoliosis and uncomfortable brace. On Instagram, Ysabel posted the many amazing milestones she's celebrated while recovering, making it clear that the scoliosis surgery allowed the Sister Wives star to live her best life. From going to prom to graduating high school, Ysabel has gone from enduring spine pain to thriving in the past year. Ysabel has also been more empowered to show off her body in the past few months. In the post, Ysabel explained that although recovering from scoliosis has been painful, it's been worth it. She wrote, "I've never felt so pain-free and in control of my own body... I wouldn't go back and change a single decision made." Christine also shared her pride for her daughter making it through her difficult journey.
